About Liv

As an artist myself, I know how vulnerable it can be to share your voice. I also know that it is one of the most beautiful and gratifying ways to express yourself. With 15+ years of experience performing, recording, arranging, and coaching vocals, I'm very confident I can help you reach your singing goals! I graduated from Berklee College of Music with a Major in Songwriting and as a Vocal Principal. I really believe in creating a fun and safe space for my students to grow. You probably won't have a difficult time getting a laugh out of me. I'm looking forward to meeting new people and hopefully creating beautiful coach/student relationships. Outside of music, I love astrology, psychology, sci-fi/action movies, cooking, writing, yoga, and spending time with my dog Moose.

I like to approach vocal lessons from a technical and holistic standpoint. A typical lesson for me usually begins with whatever warm-ups and exercises I feel fit our goals, and a check in to see how you're doing and if there is anything in particular you want to focus on improving. I have a lot of really effective exercises that'll get your voice where you need it to go! Next, we focus on a particular song that focuses on whatever our current goal may be. For example, if you really want to work on your belt, we may choose a bridge from a very diva-esque Celine Dion type song and try different techniques to practice. If you are an artist yourself, we can certainly work on your own original material and find places where we can use different registers to get an effective performance.

I work a lot with placement and support in my singing lessons, and I use a lot of visualization techniques to get you in the right placement. We work on strengthening every part of your voice, especially your mix so that you can easily glide through challenging material.

I'm a very encouraging coach; I'm not very gruff, so if that's what you think you need I may not be the best fit! I keep my lessons fun while making big strides in your singing!

I may charge more than average, but my students find it to be a fair deal because being my student comes with a few perks:
* I keep my lines of communication open and will always respond to any questions you may have outside of lesson time
* I help artists with their creative vision and writing
* I implement strategies and techniques to shift your mindset for positive change.

I teach all levels and all ages, and I can't wait to meet you!

  • When did you first develop a passion for music and your favorite instrument?

I've loved singing for as long as I can remember, but I began taking lessons and studying vocals seriously when I was about 10, and I discovered I really loved the guitar at around 15. I've been playing and singing ever since. I just never get tired of it, it never felt like work to me to practice. I'm hoping I can help people discover their passions for music as well.
  • Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

Oh my goodness, SO many! I'd say I have a pretty broad range of musical taste, but I have always had a soft spot for pop, rock and r&b. My favorite artists are the Foo Fighters, Paramore, Stevie Wonder, Joni Mitchell, Taylor Swift, Kacey Musgraves, Beyonce, just to name a few. I never get tired of their catalogs.
  • Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

I think tackling ear training and mastering your mix voice are probably the two subjects I focus on that are the most riveting; both require a lot of patience and dedication to develop! But rest assured it can be done (exhibit A, me!)
  • What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

Honestly, I think mastering the voice and drums are the most complicated. That's not to say its incredibly DIFFICULT, it's just drums require amazing natural rhythm and the voice is so unique to each person, and finding what you want to improve on in vocals can be challenging. Also, you singers have to be entertainers and lead a band and bring life to the lyrics of the song, and drummers have to hold down the fort with the beat.
  • What are your keys to success?

CONSISTENCY, dedication, passion, and a positive growth mindset. All are absolutely necessary for reaching your goals especially in the music business!
  • Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

Dave Grohl, because he has had such an illustrious and long career, he plays everything and has been in TWO legendary bands. I'd love to pick his brain about his songwriting process.Taylor Swift, because she has such an amazing way of gripping her audience and writing and I'd love to pick her brain too about her process and how she keeps people so interested in her stories.
Max Martin! Of course he is an absolutely legendary music producer and is behind SO many hits and I would love to ask him about his process and hear about his life.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

Music school was honestly life changing for me. I went from going to a high school where there wasn't a big emphasis on music programs to Berklee, where obviously the opposite is true. I finally felt like I met my people. I majored in songwriting, which was a really special experience because I got to meet so many other talented writers who I still follow to this day and feel so lucky I got to see them from the beginning. But probably the most valuable experience I had at Berklee was being a part of the Acapella group. That taught me so many amazing skills and helped me up my performance chops so fast. I also had been more of a lone wolf in my singing up until that point, and joining a group of other singers who loved it as much as I did was honestly so healing for me. Singing is very special and healing in it of itself, but when you sing in a group with people it just creates a special bond that I'll have for the rest of my life.
  • What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

I am very dedicated to my students, and keep my line open for communication if any of them have a question outside of lesson time. I keep my lessons fun and interesting, and like to establish trust and a connection with my students. I love helping people and I think that really shines through with my coaching.
