About Yuria

Music has been a part of my life since the age of 5. At that time, I vowed that I would stop playing as soon as I turned 18. Fast forward 17 years, and you'll find me practicing Bach, teaching students, or playing in my church orchestra.

Some incredibly important experiences that changed my outlook on music:

In middle school, I started performing in a local orchestra. This completely changed my perspective on the violin, and I started to enjoy practicing. I was motivated to learn and improve my technique so I could advance – and guess what? The hard work paid off when I was selected to perform as concert master of my high school's orchestra the year we were preparing to play at Carnegie Hall (New York City)! After high school, I played in my college's orchestra as a non-music major for the first 2.5 years (life got too busy after that to continue).

Upon graduating, I've been teaching violin on and off over the last year. One experience that I still think about on the daily is my semester-long private violin lessons that I took in college. Here, I realized how important it is to have a good foundation in technique. Going back to the very basics to relearn how to hold my violin properly was grueling, especially since I had been playing the violin for 15 years at that point. However, after that initial period, I found my tone and overall playing ability improving a lot. Now, as a teacher, I find it extremely important that beginner students have good technique to perform well (and avoid those annoying injuries).

I'm excited to continue teaching, and look forward to making music together!

About the lesson

My lessons are either 30 minutes or 1 hour lessons. Students may sign up for 1-2 sessions per week.

The initial lesson will consist of a get-to-know you portion where we go over goals, interests, expectations, and assess playing style/technique. Please note that I may decline to set up another lesson if I do not believe that I can meet a student's needs or expectations.

Generally, lessons will consist of a warm-up period before practicing a selected piece.

I encourage students to take notes after leaving their lesson. This is to ensure that their practice time is efficient. (For younger students, I will take 5 extra minutes to write down lesson notes to be used outside of lesson time.)

Please note that I teach beginner/low-intermediate students interested in classical/pop music. All ages are welcome.
