About Grant

I am a violin tutor with over 8 years of experience and a Bachelor of Music in Classical Strings. I specialize in working with adult beginners and those returning to the violin after a break. My lessons focus on simple, effective exercises that build technique without overwhelming you. I emphasize ergonomic positioning, so you play comfortably and avoid strain. Mindfulness is a key part of my approach, helping each student stay present and enjoy the learning process. I love exploring a variety of genres, including Folk, Blues, Easy Classical, and Worship music. Each session is tailored to your pace, interests, and goals. We work together on tone, rhythm, and expression, while making learning engaging and rewarding. Mistakes are seen as opportunities, and progress—no matter how small—is celebrated. My aim is to help you rediscover the joy of playing the violin. Whether you want to perform, relax, or simply enjoy music, I guide you every step of the way. By combining structure, creativity, and patience, I create lessons that are both productive and enjoyable. Let’s bring your violin back into your life—at your own pace, with confidence and joy.

About the lesson

I begin each lesson by listening—truly listening—to where my students are in their musical journey. Some arrive struggling with posture or tense shoulders; others feel frustrated by shaky intonation or uneven bowing. Together, we break these challenges into small, manageable steps. I guide their bow hold carefully, showing them how a simple adjustment can instantly improve tone. Scales become more than exercises—they are tools for discipline, focus, and confidence.

I encourage students to experiment with dynamics, turning practice into a playground for expression. When motivation dips, I weave stories and musical examples that make the pieces come alive, helping them connect emotionally to every note. For those who thrive on structure, I create clear practice plans with achievable milestones. For expressive learners, I emphasize phrasing, tone color, and subtle nuances that make performances captivating.

I celebrate every success, big or small, and transform mistakes into learning opportunities. With patience, guidance, and encouragement, my students gradually gain control over intonation, rhythm, and bowing. I help them grow technically while nurturing a love for the instrument.
