About Nira

I am a violin tutor with over 8 years of teaching experience and hold a Bachelor of Music in Early Music, specializing in Baroque Violin. Over time, my passion has grown to include Irish, Scottish, American Old-Time, and other rich folk violin traditions. I love showing students how these styles connect history, culture, and storytelling through sound. In my teaching, I emphasize ornamentation, rhythmic bowing patterns, and ear-based learning, all of which are at the heart of folk playing. Instead of focusing only on the page, I help students train their ears to catch subtle variations and stylistic nuances. To make learning engaging, I use folk jam tracks that give the feel of playing in a real session, as well as drone tuners that strengthen intonation. My lessons are repertoire-based, so every exercise connects directly to a piece of music students are excited to play. I believe this approach keeps motivation high while still building strong technical skills. Along the way, I guide students in finding their own voice within these traditions, encouraging them to interpret and personalize the music. Whether you’re new to the violin or looking to deepen your skills, I offer a warm and encouraging environment. Together, we will explore the violin through the lively sounds of folk traditions, making music that feels both authentic and deeply enjoyable.

About the lesson

My teaching approach for violin is centered on building a strong technical foundation while keeping music expressive and enjoyable. I guide students step by step through posture, bowing, and fingering so they can play with ease and accuracy. Alongside technique, I place great importance on ear training, helping students develop listening skills that improve tuning, rhythm, and musical sensitivity.

I also work on performance confidence, giving students practical strategies to overcome stage nerves and enjoy sharing their music with others. Repertoire is chosen carefully to balance challenge and enjoyment, whether a student is preparing for formal exams, stage performances, or personal goals. I encourage emotional expression in every piece, teaching how to shape phrasing and dynamics to bring the music to life.

My lessons are supportive and adaptable, whether a student is drawn to classical pieces, dramatic works, or music that lifts and inspires. I create a safe space where students can experiment, take risks, and grow without fear of mistakes. Over the years, I have helped learners connect their technique with storytelling, turning practice into performance with meaning.

Ultimately, I aim to develop not just skilled violinists but confident musicians who can communicate through music with both precision and heart. Each student’s journey is unique, and my role is to guide, encourage, and inspire them at every stage.
