About Miha

In my guitar instruction, I emphasize the importance of developing a strong musical foundation while also encouraging creativity and personal expression. I believe that every student has the potential to become a skilled and confident musician, and I am dedicated to guiding them on their musical journey. I begin by assessing each student's current abilities and musical interests, tailoring lessons to meet their individual needs and goals. I focus on building technical proficiency through exercises that develop dexterity, coordination, and tone production. I also introduce music theory concepts gradually, helping students understand the structure and language of music. I encourage students to apply these concepts by learning songs that resonate with them, fostering a sense of ownership and motivation. I place a strong emphasis on ear training, rhythm development, and improvisation, allowing students to become more versatile and expressive musicians. I also provide opportunities for students to perform, both in private lessons and public settings, to build confidence and stage presence. Through a combination of structured lessons and creative exploration, I aim to cultivate musicians who are not only skilled guitarists but also passionate and expressive artists.

My guitar teaching method is deeply rooted in practical musicianship and lifelong musical literacy. I believe that a strong guitarist is not only someone who can execute pieces or replicate riffs, but someone who truly understands music from the inside out. To that end, I incorporate four essential pillars into every lesson: technique, theory, listening, and creativity. Technique is covered through carefully chosen drills, etudes, and song-based studies that emphasize precision, tone, and efficiency.

I tailor these to each student’s level and aspirations, ensuring the challenge is always achievable yet inspiring. Music theory is never taught in a vacuum—it’s embedded into everything we play. Students learn why certain chords feel resolved, how melodic tension is created, and what makes one solo sound bluesy and another jazzy. I also prioritize ear training by teaching students how to recognize intervals, harmonies, and rhythmic patterns through singing, active listening, and transcription exercises. Creativity comes in through improvisation challenges, composition projects, and performance preparation. I support students in recording their own music, experimenting with effects pedals or digital audio workstations, and collaborating with peers. Importantly, my role isn’t to simply transmit knowledge but to help students develop confidence, curiosity, and musical independence.

I ask a lot of questions in lessons, encouraging students to think critically and make informed choices about phrasing, dynamics, and style. While I celebrate accuracy, I value expressiveness and musical personality even more. I view setbacks as integral to progress and help students reframe frustration as a natural part of learning. Over the years, I’ve helped students prepare for college auditions, lead worship bands, record albums, and return to music after decades away. Regardless of their destination, my goal remains the same: to empower every student to become the most honest, capable, and joyful musician they can be.
