About Paul
In my eight years as a screenwriter, I have written across all forms, from Film to TV to Theatre plays to Video Games. Starting out writing, directing and producing my own short parody films, I would go on to win several festival awards, including the inaugural Cork Film Festival Award at the First Cut! Youth Film Festival. In this time I also wrote in advertising, writing scripts for the marketing campaigns of some of the biggest companies in my home country of Northern Ireland. Since graduating from the prestigious National Film and Television School's Screenwriting MA course, I have had films screened at acclaimed festivals, including Palm Springs and LSFF. I have also had video games presented at the EGX games conference in London. Currently I am continuing to develop several projects across film and TV, while meeting with some of the biggest agencies and production companies in the UK industry.

As a Screenwriter, I have written across all forms, have a first-class BA Hons in Film with Media and recently graduated with an MA in Screenwriting from the prestigious National Film and Television School. As a tutor I have facilitated several OCN accredited Screenwriting workshops in my home country of Northern Ireland, helping beginner screenwriters develop their own short films. With this experience, I hope to help beginner or early-stage screenwriters, of any age, develop and find their own unique creative voice. Our first lesson will be more a short conversation about what level you are at, what sort of stuff you want to write (if you are at the stage where you know that is. If you don't then that's something we can figure out throughout the lessons) and what you want to gain from these sessions. From here, I will help you develop as a writer, teaching you (depending on your level) the basics of screenwriting, from formatting to structure to character arcs. In my lessons, we will also go through genre and ideas generation, through a series of fun but informative writing exercises, where I will give you feedback and notes that will allow you to develop your ideas further outside of lesson time. Lesson length will typically range between 40 mins to an hour but can be longer depending on how much writing time is required between certain exercises.

Perfect! Paul was absolutely incredible, and exactly what I was looking for in a mentor for my screenwriting. He was thoughtful, patient, informative and meticulous -- and maybe most importantly: fun! I came away from our session with a much clearer idea of my own writing, and a huge amount of motivation to carry it on.
I would recommend Paul to anyone and everyone!Perfect! Paul is a great tutor and I would recommend him highly. He is insightful and has a great way of helping students get to where they
want to get in their writing.Perfect! Paul was calm, articulate, kind and encouraging to my son. He really enjoyed his session. My son remarked how valued he felt after the time spent with Paul. Thank you.

Paul has been integral in the development of our film courses here at Glasgowbury Community Creative Hub. He has taken the lead on script writing enabling us to produce a number of short films with our teenage and marginalised young adult participants. Paul also was part of our team working on a recent documentary that is to be broadcast on BBC and iplayer. Paul is very easy to get along with, he's hardworking and reliable. I would recommend him as a tutor and look forward to working together again with him in the future!
I've previously worked as an actor on a short written by Paul - the script was exciting, interesting and fun. Any questions I had about the story or characters he was able to answer clearly and with detail.
He has also given me implementable advice and ideas on my own creative projects, improving their quality and depth in the process.
I would recommend Paul to any of my industry peers seeking honest and constructive feedback on any of their scripts, for screen, radio or the stage.Paul is a fantastic tutor to guide you through the scriptwriting process and make sure that you come away with a script that you’re proud of. I always trust him with my scripts - he can quickly spot what needs to be worked on and help me find the next right steps to move forward. He’s patient, insightful and good fun to work with. Highly recommend!
Paul is an extremely experienced screenwriter with many years worked developing his craft. I have been part of a panel giving screenwriting advice to local college students with Paul, and his knowledge of writing and the film industry in general really shines through. He's passionate about sharing what he has learned with others, and is always approachable and willing to tailor his teaching to the individual.
I attended NFTS' Screenwriting MA alongside Paul. While there he wrote some brilliant feature-length scripts, pilots, and short scripts that managed to simultaneously juggle difficult and thought-provoking subject matter & humour in a way few can. Not only this, his oral feedback in group discussions was extremely helpful. His ability to offer constructive criticism whilst remaining positive and encouraging is second to none.
