About Freya
Hello! I’m a violin tutor with over 10 years of teaching experience and a Bachelor of Arts in Music with an emphasis in Violin. My background includes extensive performance in solo, chamber, and orchestral settings, which has shaped my approach to both technique and musical expression. I enjoy helping students not just play the notes, but bring the music to life with confidence and personality. In my lessons, I focus on developing stage presence, refining audition pieces, and interpreting advanced repertoire with clarity and depth. I work closely with high school performers preparing for juries, conservatory students sharpening their artistry, and competition entrants seeking that extra edge. Each student gets a tailored plan that fits their goals and learning style. Technique is essential, but I also prioritize musicality, phrasing, and emotional connection to the piece. I offer guidance on tone production, bow control, and effective practice strategies. My goal is to help students perform with intention and poise under pressure. Whether you're polishing a concerto or preparing for your next big performance, I’m here to support you. Together, we’ll unlock your full potential and take your playing to the next level of musical excellence.

My teaching approach for violin is all about building strong fundamentals while keeping lessons creative and goal-focused. I begin by helping students develop proper posture, bowing technique, and left-hand positioning to build a solid foundation. From there, we work on tone quality, intonation, and smooth string transitions.
Sight reading is introduced early and developed gradually with fun, level-appropriate exercises. I also include music theory in my lessons to help students understand key signatures, rhythms, and how music is structured. For more advanced students, I focus on vibrato development, shifting techniques, and expressive phrasing to bring their playing to life.
I support students who want to prepare for performances or explore modern genres like pop and contemporary music. I also guide those aiming for structured classical progress, helping them master the pieces with control and confidence. I adapt my methods to fit each student’s learning style and musical interests.
We work with scales, etudes, and repertoire to build strength, precision, and musicality. I also use backing tracks and ear training to boost listening skills and performance readiness. My goal is to make violin playing both technically strong and emotionally expressive. I want every student to feel confident, inspired, and excited to grow.

I still remember sitting in the college common room, hearing Freya sing for the first time, we all just stopped and listened. She has this rare way of making you feel every word she sings. Now, as a tutor, she brings that same heart into her lessons. She will cheer you on, make you laugh when you’re nervous, and somehow will turn practice into the best part of your week.
I’ve had the pleasure of working alongside Freya, she’s an incredible singer. Every time I hear her perform, I’m blown away by her voice, control, and emotion. She has this rare ability to connect with the music and the audience at the same time. It’s inspiring to work with someone so genuinely talented.
