  • When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?

My father can play the guitar, so when I was a kid playing and singing was a casual activity at home. This is how I got involved with music; he booked my first guitar lesson when I was 7 and ‘ive always been involved with music since.
  • Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

To be fair, there are several types of music and artists that I don’t mind listening to on a loop. I am a looper. For example, I adore soul; I used to have Amy Winehouse on a loop for months but then that was after my rock/metal period where I listened to Black Sabbath on a loop which came after my classical-music period where I used to listen to Rachmaninoff on a loop and so on….At the moment I find myself in a flamenco period.
  • ) Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

The most riveting course that I could personally give to a student of music is learning how to play without the pressure of perfectionism playing for themselves to enjoy the learning experience and actually love guitar playing. This might sound simple but it is not; it takes loads of time energy and efforts to actually enjoy your playing with all its imperfections.
  • What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

I think every instrument has its own difficulties and particularities; then every person is built differently and inclined towards something else. For me, instruments that are not tuned according to the western system like the oud just baffle me but I don’t think it is something about it that makes it inherently more difficult than the others. Other particularities such as there are no frets either (just like the violin) and the sound mas prodiathetei for a specific result making it difficult to accept something else from it. Something that looks difficult to me is the sitar; too many strings, semitones divided, no frets; but then if I was encultured it wouldn’t seem so complicated.
  • What are your keys to success?

I think there are some attributes that will help you succeed in playing an instrument and also widen your horizons. In my opinion the most essential things are: curiosity, hard work, open-mindedness and excitement.
  • Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

I always loved Russian Romantic composers such as Tchaikovsky, Shostokovich and Rachmaninoff. I would like to see them in a bar in the early hours of a white night in Saint Petersbourg. However, I am very unsure as to how our conversation could have gone.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

In the winter of 2020 we all had to stay at home, confined and that was particularly difficult for musicians. However, entrapped almost in my flat in Manchester I created much more than I thought I could; I created a course about music and wellness. I doubled my students and I created playlists for workshops and theatre performances. Because of this experience I realised that being a musician means so many different things.
  • What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

I always follow the lead of my students. The lessons that I provide are personalised and tailored to the needs of the students. I offer most musical styles (and the guitar can be used to play many) such as classical, flamenco, blues and jazz.
