About Mattia

My qualifications include my Bachelor of Music degree from Western University, and my several years of teaching and operating a private studio in London, Ontario. I've performed for the public many times, including two solo recitals during my time at Western, and a self-lead and organized performance of "Carnaval des Animaux" by Camille Saint-Saens. I've also performed in groups alongside other young artists in the GTA on several occasions.

Music-making is a vulnerable activity when done right. One offers a deeply personal part of themselves to their audience when giving a performance. Sometimes, art can even confront us directly, causing a type of introspection which can be daunting or even scary. Thus, I always ensure that my studio is a safe and inviting space that parents and students alike can feel comfortable in. If you're a parent enrolling your child, you're more than welcome to sit in on lessons. But in any case, I assure you that your child will be treated with respect and care. If you are an adult interested in enrolling yourself, you are also welcome to bring a friend or loved one along if you please!

If you're interested in enrolling your child or yourself in my studio but first want to see if I'd be a good fit for your needs, I'd be delighted to offer a trial lesson free of charge. This would involve a more in-depth discussion about my curriculum and method, policy, and a demonstration of my teaching.

On a lighter and more personal note here's some info about myself:

I love adventure! I like to go on camping and canoe trips. Last summer I even ran a canoe program for a summer camp in Goderich! I also enjoy strategic games such as chess - a board is always available in my home studio for your enjoyment if you're sitting in. Of course, I massively appreciate art of all kinds, but I also get just as excited to watch the Raptors play. I also like to explore new things, my free time often includes trying small shops downtown or simply trying something new at home. I hope to get to know you soon, too.

Welcome all! It's wonderful that you've decided to enroll your child, or yourself, in music lessons. The pursuit of music-making is both an enriching creative endeavor and a great way of stimulating and training the mind. Children in music lessons are not only proven to perform better academically, but learn a sense of discipline and self-direction that will guide them for the rest of their life.

All backgrounds and ages are welcome in my studio! Music is an inherently social activity, and one of my favourite parts about teaching is the individual connection I make with each student I work with. My only requirement for incoming students is that they come in ready to embrace the music they learn - to learn the notes is only the first step. To understand how each note fits into each phrase, which fits into each theme, which fits into each piece, which fits into its culture and the world as a whole, and to offer a part of yourself to that greater design is to take the courageous first step into becoming an artist and unlocking the full potential of art for yourself.

Under my instruction, individuals will learn the necessary techniques for mastering their art. They will learn to set goals and to make structured plans in order to succeed at achieving them. Individuals will be encouraged to take part in studio recitals, festival performances, masterclasses, RCM exams if so desired, and other extra-curricular activities. Finally, they will learn to engage with music, art, and culture in a more meaningful way, broadening their horizons through activities away from the piano, like listening, discussions, and more.
