About Jackson

Over the past 9 years, I’ve had the privilege of helping students—from absolute beginners to emerging songwriters—develop their skills on the guitar. I specialize in working with teens and young adults in school and college environments, where music often becomes a source of identity and confidence. My teaching style blends technical instruction with creative freedom. Early on, we focus on clean technique, rhythm, timing, and basic theory, all taught through songs and styles the student enjoys. But as students gain comfort with the basics, I encourage them to explore composition, ear training, and personal expression through improvisation. I also guide students through stage preparation and overcoming performance anxiety, especially those interested in showcasing their talents in school events or community performances. I’ve seen firsthand how music can shift a student’s mindset—from nervous to proud, from unsure to empowered. One of my most memorable experiences involved mentoring a student through the writing, arrangement, and performance of their first original EP. I believe lessons should feel like a combination of discovery, challenge, and fun. My goal is to ensure students don’t just learn how to play guitar—they learn how to use it as a creative, emotional, and even transformative tool in their lives.

Teaching guitar for the last 9 years has been an incredible journey, largely because I get to witness firsthand how music transforms people’s lives. Each student brings something special to our lessons—whether it’s a particular style they love, a specific goal they want to achieve, or unique challenges they face.

I believe that teaching should honor those individualities by providing lessons that are both comprehensive and adaptable. My instruction covers technical fundamentals like hand positioning, scales, and chord transitions, but I also emphasize musicality, encouraging students to listen deeply and play expressively. I work with students on rhythm and timing, using a mix of metronome practice, backing tracks, and real-world playing situations like jam sessions or performances.

One unforgettable experience was when a student I had taught for several months overcame their initial struggles with finger dexterity and went on to confidently join a local open mic night. This kind of progress is the heart of what motivates me as an educator. I strive to build a supportive, encouraging learning space where students feel safe to take risks and make mistakes, knowing that these are part of the growth process.

I also introduce music theory in a practical way, showing how it applies directly to songs and improvisation. Many students appreciate this connection between the abstract and the real, which boosts both their understanding and enjoyment. My goal is to help every student find their voice on the guitar, whether they aim to perform, compose, or simply enjoy playing for themselves.
