About Carlos

Hello! If you have come this far, it will be because you are interested in knowing who I am and what my training is, right?

I started this early, at 16 years old. At that time I was helping at weekends in the photographic laboratory of a local newspaper: my first training and professional school.

At the age of 21, I obtained the title of Superior Image Technician, specializing in photography. I was leaving for Mexico for a while, where I worked for a time as a photo-fixer and a camera assistant in various audiovisual productions with a production company based in Madrid.

On my return, the European Community and the Community of Madrid awarded me a research grant at the University of Alcalá, in the Department of Scientific Photography. There I also started teaching. Meanwhile, I was working as well in different studios making editorial and advertising photography.

I start teaching at the Photography School of the Alcalá de Henares Town Hall. From 2000 to 2018, more than a thousand students pass through my classrooms. I teach introductory photography workshops, applied photography, lighting, digital post-production (Lightroom and Photoshop), flash management, street photography, travel photography ... I worked too as a photojournalist in local newspapers, combining my teaching work with freelance work for various institutions and companies.

In 2006 I started working for the administration: first in the Ministry of Defense and then in the Ministry of Culture.

In 2018, together with several partners, we set up a visual arts school in Alcalá de Henares. I have been working for the Culture Department of the Torrejón de Ardoz City Council, coordinating and giving photographic training workshops since then.

During all this time, in addition to combining my work as a freelance photographer in social and institutional photography with my work as a teacher, I expanded my training. I do an Annual Master in Digital Postproduction at Lens School in Madrid and various digital specialization and fashion photography workshops (Workshop Experience, Blank Paper ...).

I also got scholarships in specialized workshops to continue my training with photographers such as Gervasio Sánchez, Ricky Dávila, Juan Manuel Castro-Prieto ... Between classes, in addition, there is always time to get the C1 certificate in English from the Official School of Languages ;)

I am still in love with this profession as the first day and seeing how some of my students become into professional photographers, while others widen their gaze over the years. Do you want to be next?

About the lesson

Do you want to learn photography from 0 with results from the first class?

After training over a thousand students for 20 years, I have developed a fluid method that will allow you to master your camera and the different visual strategies that professional photographers are using.

How will we do it? Easy: applying from the first moment the technical possibilities that any camera allows in manual mode with a 100% practical method.

What are we going to do?

- Learn to use the camera, quickly and smoothly, losing the fear of manual mode.

- Learn about the creative effects that speed and aperture bring to your photos.

- Learn the visual rules and composition strategies to communicate and express ourselves better.

- Learn to observe and capture light with our camera.

- Handle with ease a good number of disciplines through practices in which I will guide and help you. We will practice portraiture, landscape, urban photography ...

- Shoot and practice a lot. Through guided exercises and learning from our experience and mistakes.

Carlos es muy buen profe. En la primera clase vimos cuál era mi nivel y en muy pocas noté la diferencia. Tiene mucha paciencia y se toma su tiempo para explicarte las cosas. Las clases son prácticas y dinámicas, y además se nota su pasión por la fotografía y su ojo. Recomendado 100% por su flexibilidad, simpatía y por hacer las clases tan amenas.
