About Serena
I am a dedicated violin tutor with over eight years of teaching experience and hold a Bachelor of Music in Chamber Music with a focus on violin. My approach combines technical training with a deep understanding of music theory, aural skills, and sight reading. I believe these elements are essential for developing both confidence and creativity on the instrument. In my lessons, scales, intervals, and harmony are not just abstract concepts but are woven into practical bowing and fingering exercises. This makes theory come alive and connects directly to how students play. I also emphasise listening carefully, helping students recognise patterns and relationships in the music they perform. Sight reading is another important area, and I provide step-by-step methods that strengthen fluency and reduce performance anxiety. I work with students preparing for music exams, guiding them through repertoire, technique, and musicianship requirements. At the same time, I enjoy teaching those who simply want to expand their overall musical fluency and understanding. My teaching is structured yet flexible, meeting each student at their current level and encouraging steady progress. I aim to create lessons that feel both challenging and rewarding. By blending technical foundations with musical expression, I help students grow into well-rounded and confident violinists. My goal is to ensure that every learner discovers not only how to play but also how to truly enjoy the art of making music.

I encourage them to visualise music patterns, which strengthens memory and brings creativity into practice. Each lesson includes strategies to build healthy, sustainable practice habits that prevent strain and support long-term growth. I pay close attention to how students respond physically and mentally, gently adjusting approaches to suit their needs. For some, emotional safety is key to opening up musically; for others, physical ease and balance allow the music to flow freely. I also nurture imaginative learning, inviting students to hear stories or colours in the music, which deepens expression. At the same time, I support strong goal-setting for those who thrive on clear milestones. This balance creates an environment where discipline and creativity coexist. My aim is to help every student feel centred, expressive, and confident in their playing. Music, then, becomes not just a skill but a joyful part of who they are.
