About Poorna

Hi! My name is Poorna, and I'm a 25-year-old academic. I've taught in undergraduate design studios and tutored younger and older students in a variety of subjects. I help students develop a style and approach to visual representation. With my experience on undergraduate admissions panels, curatorial projects, and public art exhibitions I can provide guidance for middle school and high school students applying to post-secondary creative programs. I'm eager to work with students of all ages who are interested in learning and practicing their creative skills.

About the lesson

My approach to teaching is simple, intuitive, and flexible. I particularly enjoy Plein-air sketching and portraiture.

Starting with the basics of colour theory, light & shadow, perspective, and composition I help students build upon their interests and experience in drawing, painting, and illustration. I encourage my students to practice in the medium of their choice with a variety of Plein-air, still life, and abstract exercises.

If you're looking to prepare a portfolio for university applications I can structure lessons to plan, produce, review, and critique your work in preparation.

I am happy to instruct students at any age! Online, or in person.
