About Aamir

As a supportive economics mentor, I bring a distinguished academic background and a results-focused, mentoring approach to every session. Former President of the Economics Society and a key contributor to the Economics Steering Group, I’ve worked alongside top researchers to shape university-level economics—insights I now pass directly to my students.

With an MSc in Data Science and a BSc in Economics, my tutoring merges academic excellence with innovative, research-based teaching methods. I’ve also supported A-Level students through collaboration with the Royal Economics Society, helping them navigate the complexities of both A-Level and university-level economics with confidence.

Each lesson is personalised, combining deep curriculum expertise (AQA, Edexcel, OCR) with bespoke revision strategies designed to improve understanding, sharpen exam technique, and build lasting confidence. While I don’t focus on specific exam outcomes, students consistently make meaningful progress in both knowledge and performance.

More than just a tutor, I’m a mentor—committed to developing disciplined, independent thinkers ready for long-term academic success.

  • 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

While I was at university studying Economics BSc, I was recognised for my contributions to economics and invited to join the Economics Steering Committee, a prestigious economics committee containing some of the most well-known, established figures from across the Economics Department and world-renowned lecturers throughout my time on this committee. I directly contributed to how economics was taught across the university through my weekly discussions with leading researchers in economics. I received an award for my contribution to teaching economics across the department.

I tutored my peers and helped them understand various economics topics through study groups I had created. I also managed economics discussion groups, which included over 150 students from our university. I helped students discuss their modules and share their insights, with professors joining some of these groups for additional support. Through the study sessions held by the groups I ran, I was able to help my friends score among the top of the cohort, and that encouraged me to start tutoring, as it showed me I could make a real, significant, positive impact on how economics was taught and help everyone improve their knowledge of economics, no matter what their background was.
  • 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach and the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I specialize in teaching A-level Economics and cover various exam boards with my students, which contain all the relevant material from the AQA, OCR, and Edexcel exam boards and help to make all parts of a student's course easy to understand and help them score high marks.

While I was at university studying for my Economics BSc, I taught core concepts to my economics peers, covering modules such as Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Applied Economics topics, International Trade, Introduction to Econometrics, Introduction to Statistics, Intro to Maths for Finance and Economics,

I also teach Business Studies, a course I am well-equipped to study. I developed a strong interest and passion for Business Studies while doing my GCSEs and became well-equipped with the essay writing techniques necessary to perform well, which I now pass on to others.

Lastly, I help students with their university applications, interviews, and job applications to ensure they succeed regardless of their path.
  • 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

I had many tutors who inspired me while studying for my Economics BSc at university and even for my Data Science MSc. They all taught me different styles of critical thinking, analysis, and evaluation skills. They showed me how to perform complex mathematics and learn impressive coding styles.

I was inspired by their teaching skills and passion for their subject, so I now wish to pass on this fresh knowledge to my next set of economics students.
  • 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

If a tutor wishes to see his students succeed academically, they must possess kindness, understanding, and flexibility and be generous with their teaching resources and time.

It is always a teacher's responsibility to ensure that each student's learning needs are met in their unique way and covered at a learning pace that suits them best. It is good to be qualified, experienced, and professional. Still, if a tutor does not possess the qualities I listed previously, they will find it difficult to see their student's difficulties and help them succeed. Thus, I pride myself in embodying such qualities, allowing my teaching to see great results for my students.
  • 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school

When I was 10, I wasn't particularly interested or motivated to study English because my younger self did not find the subject fun. However, I remember when our class was introduced to playing online English mini-games. As soon as this new teaching style was introduced, my performance and enthusiasm to do well in English rapidly started growing.

This anecdote highlights the importance of learning style because I believe each teaching subject has a unique insight and style of seeing the world we don't see. Instead, we can see numbers or figures on a page, but when you adapt your teaching styles to maximise how much your students enjoy your lesson, then they will learn and have fun during the learning process.

This is why I tailor my teaching style for each student to maximise their engagement and enjoyment while learning; if you enjoy your subject, you will do well subconsciously.
  • 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

My main challenge is my tendency toward perfectionism in everything I do. Economics is a vast and rapidly evolving field, with new applications and examples emerging every day. As a lifelong learner, I constantly strive to stay updated with the latest economic events. However, my thirst for knowledge extends far beyond this, and attempting to fully satisfy my curiosity about economics feels almost impossible. This drive keeps me motivated and reminds me that learning is an ongoing journey.
  • 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

I have a passion for teaching a wide variety of subjects. However, my specialty is economics, and I am constantly learning and teaching topics such as AI, Data Science, medieval history, business, and chess.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P) ?

I have helped over 130 students learn economics at university by supporting their studies. I continue to regularly provide leadership, advice, and mentoring to students at the university who wish to excel academically and pursue jobs in investment banking and other related graduate schemes.

I am an award-winning speaker and have been awarded a prestigious award for recognising my direct contributions to changing and improving the economics teaching experience for students across the university alongside the Head of the Department of Economics and leading researchers and superb economists. I have received various recommendations from senior lecturers at the university for my economics knowledge and contributions to economics.
