The struggles of learning a new language can be tough, particularly English, if it not your first language!

Pete Smissen sets out his goal clearly in his podcast, he wants to "teach you the English spoken down under". This podcast is for anyone who has interest in moving to, travelling to or simply just has an interest in Australia and how English is spoken here.

Whether you are an advanced or beginner English speaker and are new to Australia, then Slow English could be the perfect podcast for you. Slow English with Rob McCormack is a podcast designed for new English speakers who are living in Australia, this podcast focuses more on current affairs and Australian culture. However it is spoken slowly by a native speaker, so this would be a great podcast if you are someone who looking to improve their listening skills.

Given that Australia has close ties to the United Kingdom it is a good idea to have a variety of podcasts in different English standards to listen to. The audio lessons from the British Council offer long form podcasts which go for 25 minutes. These podcasts can be of great assistance, and you are able to pause at any point and pick it up again from where you left off!

Kiwi English

Australia and New Zealand share a similar history and still to this day have close cultural ties to each other. If you are new to Australia there's nothing stopping you from jumping "across the ditch" to the neighbouring beauty that is New Zealand. So why not improve your spoken English by listening to Kiwi English.

Familiarising yourself with candid conversations at an intermediate level will help you to keep up with the pace of spoken English. Kiwi English is great podcast if you want to fine tune your ear to the New Zealand accent which can be frequently mistaken for Australian and vice versa!
