About Minna

I am in my second year at Edinburgh university studying Spanish and Italian, with additional modules in Art and Linguistics.

I have 5 years of experience babysitting children ages 8 months to 13 years, helping with homework and reading, cooking and cleaning. I can also offer support and encouragement with music learning; I have a Grade 7 in piano and Grade 4 in trumpet; and dance, having graduated from the Royal Ballet associates in 2018. I spent 6 months in 2018-19 as a part time nanny for a 8-14 month old baby, and for another family with three children ages 5-10. I can provide references from both if required.

I can offer tutoring and learning support in Spanish for any level of primary and secondary school, up to and including A level/Advanced Higher, as well as other humanities subjects/languages for a younger age group.

About the lesson

I would love to help in any way I can; babysitting, school pick-up, or tutoring. I have lots of experience babysitting/nannying for children ages 8 months - 13 years.

As well as Spanish tutoring for any primary and secondary school levels, I am also eager to provide help in other subjects for primary school, and Classics for GCSE. My A levels were Spanish (A), Latin (A) and Art (A*), with an A in Classics AS level and an A* in my EPQ.

I am a very cheerful, patient and attentive person, and I love chatting with children (and adults)! I like to create an emboldening and engaging learning environment, taking particular care to be sensitive to and understanding of every child’s individual strengths and interests, and adapting my teaching methods accordingly. With younger children I often find a range of creative approaches, such as drawing, acting and rhyming, to be especially effective when teaching languages.

I enjoy seeing the moments when people gain confidence after a problem is approached from a different angle or a previously tricky exercise is clarified, and with languages I find that these rewarding progressions are particularly frequent, often in things as simple as a new word or verb form. The exciting thing about languages is that the learning process can be made up of so many of these gratifying small steps.

In 2019 I spent 5 months in travelling and studying in South and Central America, gaining experience and fluency in my Spanish speaking. I am very keen to encourage engagement and enthusiasm for other languages and cultures, something I think is invaluable and enriching — especially from a young age. I believe the reward of learning a language stretches beyond academia; it gives confidence, encourages inquisitiveness and strengthens empathy.
