Derek has been a friend and confidante for a long time now. Through the shuffle of growing and gaining/losing friends, Derek has remained a constant. I consider myself someone who prides themselves on being educated and forming views based on fact, situational awareness and the ability to view a situation from 360°. Derek is the reason I think differently than I used to. He has opened my eyes to entirely different trains of thought because he is truly able to see things for what they are and view data through an untainted lens. He is a history buff through and through and has a (sometimes irritating) sense of recall on historical facts, including the thinking of the time period we’re talking about which is crucial to understanding why things played out the way they did. I come to Derek quite frequently with a thought on something knowing he’ll give me unvarnished facts and details so I can hear a take different than my own. It’s one of my favorite parts of our friendship. We learn together, have spirited debate and provoke each other to think. He’s been a true asset to my personal growth and relentless pursuit of unbiased and objective thinking.
