About Maria
In 8 years of teaching piano, I have had the pleasure of working with over 150 students, developing their technical skills and artistic sensibilities to become well-rounded musicians. I emphasize foundational techniques such as finger independence, rhythmic accuracy, sight-reading proficiency, and hand coordination, while promoting expressive playing through phrasing, dynamics, and tone control. Integrating music theory and improvisation into lessons enhances students’ musical understanding and creativity. Lessons are tailored to each student’s interests and aspirations, whether they focus on classical repertoire, jazz improvisation, or contemporary music genres. A highlight of my teaching career was helping a student overcome stage fright and successfully perform in their first recital, illustrating the transformative power of music education on both technical and personal levels. I advocate for goal-setting and disciplined practice to foster consistent growth and self-motivation. My mission is to provide a supportive and stimulating environment where students feel confident and inspired to explore their musical potential and cultivate a lifelong passion for the piano.

My teaching philosophy is grounded in the belief that learning piano should be an engaging, expressive, and rewarding experience that nurtures both technical skills and musical imagination. I work closely with each student to identify their goals, whether they want to master classical repertoire, compose original pieces, accompany singers, or simply enjoy playing for relaxation.
I prioritize building a solid technical foundation—correct posture, finger strength, hand coordination, and rhythmic precision—because these skills empower students to play more challenging and expressive music as they progress. Theory and sight-reading are taught contextually to help students understand musical structures, making learning more meaningful and efficient. Creativity is fostered through improvisation exercises, composition projects, and exploring different musical styles, which enhances students’ confidence and artistic voice. I use technology like recording apps, metronomes, and digital keyboards to make lessons interactive and to provide immediate feedback that aids improvement. I also focus on cultivating healthy practice habits and mindfulness to prevent frustration and build resilience.
A particularly rewarding experience was working with a student who initially struggled with rhythm and timing; through movement activities, clapping exercises, and focused practice, they improved dramatically and gained confidence in ensemble settings. I believe that teaching piano is about more than technique or repertoire—it’s about inspiring students to express themselves authentically and to experience the joy of making music every step of the way.
