About Christopher

I recently graduated summa cum laude from Elon University with my B.S. in chemistry in May 2024. After spending one year at the National Cancer Institute as a researcher at the intersection of chemistry and cancer, I began my PhD in Chemistry at Princeton University in August 2025.

Taken together, I have 4 years of tutoring experience! I began formally tutoring my sophomore year of undergrad as a general chemistry tutor and it quickly became the highlight of my week. After excelling in organic chemistry in my sophomore year, I took on an additional role at my university as an organic tutor!

My ultimate career goal is to teach at an undergraduate-focused institution. As such, I treat my tutoring positions as training! I put in time before and after our sessions: how can I best support my students? Is there something that didn't go great in a session that I can improve for next time?

Why am I different from other tutors?
1. I offer help with assignments outside of formal meetings for all students who schedule sessions on a weekly basis. Guaranteed response within 24 hours!
2. I believe that learning is incredibly personal: every single person learns differently. I will work with you to find what method of learning clicks for you!
3. I am a current student myself! I know what it's like to struggle to handle family responsibilities, multiple jobs, and difficult classes all at once. I've found how to be successful with all of this and I want to help you do the same.
4. Teaching is my passion! This is more than a job to me. My professors and mentors have had an amazing impact on me, and I want to spend my life doing the same.
5. I am flexible. I will work closely with you, doing anything you need to help you learn.

  • 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I became interested in chemistry when I took my first course in high school! I immediately fell in love with the analytical/problem-solving way of thinking required to do well in chemistry courses. I continued with chemistry in my undergraduate education and enjoyed the ways in which learning about chemistry allows you to see the world in a completely different way.

Before becoming a private tutor online, I worked for 1.5 years as a tutor at my university. This experience introduced me to the world of teaching and solidified that I would like to pursue a career as a professor. Eventually, I decided I'd like to meet and work with students from across the world to help them with their chemistry, and I believe Superprof is a great platform to do just that.
  • 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach general chemistry, organic chemistry, and some mathematics (algebra and calculus). Since taking the course in undergrad, I have loved organic chemistry, and that has remained my favorite subject to teach. Some topics present certain challenges to explain through an online platform (I wish that I could be there in person to talk through isomerism and using modeling kits!), but I do my best to adapt using the tools we have available.
  • 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

I've had several role models across my high school and undergraduate education. In terms of teaching, one chemistry professor I had was responsible for inspiring me to pursue a career in teaching. He made me truly appreciate the art that goes into crafting an effective lecture and explanation for a particular topic.
  • 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

Personalization. I spend the first couple of sessions working to get a sense of where you are and what types of explanations work best for you and adapt as needed. I am a big believer that everyone learns slightly different, and so I do my best to craft explanations that work best for you. As I get to know you better, I will begin to make the tutoring experience as personalized as possible!
  • 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

Often, students come to chemistry tutoring feeling like they aren't "made" for chemistry and that they just want to get through the course. One student I worked with over the course of one year came to me just like this. He was in the mindset that he would never be good at chemistry, and he insisted that he just wanted to reach the minimum grade to pass the course. Over the course of the year however, as we continued to work together, I witnessed the growth and change in his mindset. By the end, he finished the course with a grade much above the minimum and with much more of a growth mindset. It is reflecting on these relationships that make me proud to be a tutor.
  • 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

Chemistry is HARD! There are so many difficult concepts to learn. I have struggled so much in my courses to learn the material. I also come from a low-income background, which has led to me working multiple jobs to support my undergraduate education. But through this process, I have also experienced how far simple grit and hard work can get you. At the end of the day, you are smart enough - you simply need time and dedication!
  • 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

For me it is a combination of passion for teaching as well as the subjects themselves. Both bring me energy, which reminds me that I'd like to pursue chemistry and teaching as a career.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof?

I am not special. I am a very regular person who works very hard in the things in life that I am passionate about!
