About Inês

I am Inês Coelho da Silva, a Ballet Teacher registered by the Royal Academy of Dance. I teach adult and teenage students, beginners to advanced, with the highest standards of dance education and student safety. I am a specialist in teaching online, having trained more than 300 dancers from zero, and preparing dancers of all ages to RAD examinations - all my students have been marked between Merit and High Distinction in official exams, even when training online. I am also a Progressing Ballet Technique Certified Teacher, and I have completed training in institutions such as the Royal Ballet School and the Central School of Ballet. I own a Ballet School exclusively for adults called STUDIO B Ballet Academy.

I believe that Ballet can be practised by anyone, at any age. By learning while having fun, everyone is invited to engage in my friendly classes. For the little ones, every exercise starts with a story from our imagination and there is always space to be creative. For dancers in training, hoping to improve towards their examinations, competitions or weekly classes, I have planned some rigorous but patient classes that are shaped to the students' personal needs. For beginners - children, teenagers or adults - I have prepared flexible classes that will immerse you in the world of ballet and introduce you to its fundamental principles step by step. I also own STUDIO B Ballet Academy. Created in January 2021, STUDIO B is an inclusive adult ballet school that aims to eliminate the barriers of age, size, gender and geographical distance. This ballet academy is a family like no other, with a community of over 100 dancers aged 18+ with all sorts of backgrounds and experiences, living in different parts of the globe. There is a place for everyone at STUDIO B: our students prove every day that ballet training can be started at any stage of life. Most of the group ballet and conditioning classes are taught online, which allows you to take classes from anywhere in the world and fit lessons within their busy schedules without needing to leave their houses. We also offer regular workshops and masterclasses both online and in person (London, Lisboa, Porto).

  • What age did you start playing sport? Tell us about this time or moment in your life.

I started dancing ballet when I was six years old, after hearing all my Piano classmates telling me how much fun they were having in dance class. Since then, I never stopped dancing! I did all my Royal Academy of Dance examinations while learning Jazz dance and many other styles.
I then started teaching to be able to offer other children the same excitement I had in that first contact with dancing.
  • What are your favourite sports; those that you practice at a high level, a simple hobby, and a sport that you'd still like to discover?

Dancing is definitely my favourite, as it is both a sport and a form of Art. I also practice Yoga, I do a lot of strength gym workouts and I enjoy jogging and walking. As a child, I tried swimming and horse riding, but nothing ever compared to dancing! One day, I would like to become better at playing Volleyball, which is a very interesting group sport.
  • What gives you the motivation and passion to pursue your sport?

The combination of artistry and discipline makes Ballet into a very complete practice. I am driven by the happiness of my students (both children and adults), by the effort that they put into their classes, by their passion and commitment. To teach is definitely the profession that gives me more joy!
  • Do you have a sporting achievement that you're particularly proud of?

A very special moment was when I received my first Vocational Level certification in Ballet - which allowed me to start my Teacher Training. However, I recall with a lot of love the day I was offered a place at the Certificate of Ballet Teaching Studies at the Royal Academy of Dance.
  • How have your achievements and challenges made you a better sportsperson?

Adversities are our best friend when it comes to learning, so those not so good moments have enabled me to grow, to have a better perspective of the world around me and to adapt myself to the difficulties. The pandemic we are currently living is an excellent example of that: this terrible moment in history has prevented me to teach my students in person for the time being. That pushed me into starting to teach online and even to create my own online Ballet Academy: STUDIO B.
  • If you had to go for a jog with a famous athlete, who would you choose? And what questions would you ask them?

I would definitely go for a run with Marianela Nuñez, Principal Dancer at The Royal Ballet. I would ask her how she finds the right amount of hours of work to stay healthy physically and psychologically, how does she deal with her injuries, and what would she do on a self-care day!
  • How do you help people stay motivated?

A positive mindset is key for all stages of learning. It is also essential to adjust every class to the students I am teaching, to understand their pace and their abilities and to highlight the best of them.
  • What makes you a Superprof in sports?

My love for what I do is definitely what makes me work harder every day in finding the best approach, the most suitable method and the happiest smile for my lovely students! My classes are full of energy and positive feedback, respecting every student's body and mind. I believe that dance can be enjoyed at any age and it is never too late to start enjoying movement!
