Find Dance Classes Online

Get moving with a private dance course online from anywhere in Australia!

It seems like week after week a new video pops up on Youtube or Instagram to click on, featuring amazing dancers that you just can't help but be a little jealous of, especially when you see how they move with grace, style and power. From hip hop to ballet, contemporary to jazz, dancing is a fun way for both children and adults to get moving and feel free and confident. It can be a way of working on your fitness, a skill to impress a partner, or simply a dream you've always had and finally want to achieve.

There are so many tutorials and videos on Youtube that can offer some of the basics for beginners, but for students who really want to improve and learn, nothing beats a live lesson with an instructor. You could try group classes for adults or children in a studio, or learning through online tutorials. There are so many courses and classes out there to follow, that it can quickly become overwhelming, but Superprof is here to help! Our experienced tutors know how to teach students of all ages, in a large range of styles and at any ability level, and all of their information is easily accessible on their online profile!

Face to face vs online dance classes

Some will argue that to properly check your movement, the best lessons are in a studio, especially for beginners. But the truth is that both options have their own pros and cons.

Taking dancing lessons in a physical studio can be great for a variety of reasons. Your teacher will have a much better view of your moves and can check if you're making any errors as you go. It's also a good way to have some fun with a new group of dancers that you may have never met before. But there are also some negatives. You could decide to start lessons, but the studio in your area is already halfway through their term and not taking any more students. Or maybe you'd enjoy learning a specific style like tap, jazz or ballet, but the local studio only offers hip hop or contemporary. It's also possible that the class time doesn't match up with the days you or your children are free during the week.

The good news is, you can solve all of these problems with an online, private course. With private classes, you're in charge of when, where and with who you want to learn your new skill. First the when; as adults, we always have a never-ending to-do list, and kids are often busy with school and extracurriculars. Superprof tutors are flexible, so they will fit into your or your kids time tables with more ease. Then can even vary class times week to week if it suits both of you.

Then the where; again because of our busy schedules, we don't always have time to travel to a studio, especially if we live in a rural or suburban area. Online classes solve this problem, as you just have to connect to start! This also opens up the amazing range of teachers you could choose from, as you're no longer restricted to just the tutors in your local area.

Lastly, and most importantly, the what. This is the fun part...anything you want! While dancing studios often have set classes that follow a specific program, classes with private tutors can follow what you want instead. Choose the style, the music, the moves and more. And online classes don't have to be solo! Organise with a group of friends to connect to the same lesson, or even better, go to the same house. You could work on choreography for a special event, such as a wedding, or learn a dance from a music video you love.

Focus on one style or try them all!

When we say we want to learn to dance, we probably have a specific image of what we'll look like in our heads. Maybe it's wearing a gorgeous tutu, or being one of the backup dancers for Beyonce. Like music, there are so many genres that students can specialise in. Let's look at some of the most popular styles people at all levels can learn:

Hip Hop: Of course, hip hop is best known as a genre of music, but it's also a popular form of dancing that takes time and hard work to learn. Usually danced as part of a group, it includes moves from popping and locking to breakdance. It's also a fun way to work on fitness, as the music is often very high tempo.

Ballet: Who of us hasn't dreamed of becoming one of the prima ballerinas we constantly see in Youtube and Instagram videos? The different movement and poses featured in this genre are. a great foundation for other styles like contemporary and many others. For all adults and kids, they can learn endurance and persistence, working on their form and poise week by week. For any beginner, mastering a move such as a tendu or a jeté can fill us with a sense of accomplishment.

Contemporary: This style is generally thought of as a fusion between ballet and modern dance, which involves specific moves like contract-release or fall and recovery, plus a lot of improvisation compared to other styles. It's a more emotional and expressive form of dance. It's almost like the dancers are using their bodies to write in a diary, live in front of the audience.

Each Superprof tutor offers a different experience to their students, and some may specialise in a particular style, whether jazz, tap or hip hop or prefer to only work with adults or children. Once you start your search, read the online profiles carefully to check that the teacher you chose is really the best fit for you!
