About Simon
Hey! I’m Simon, and I’m a guitar teacher with 11 years teaching experience. No matter your age or experience level, I can help you become a confident, well-rounded musician.
Whether you’re just playing for fun or have dreams of selling out massive arenas, my coaching has helped dozens of players overcome their barriers, and I’d love to help you do the same! I have a wealth of experience and patience as a teacher.
To keep things fun, I use song-based learning to teach new techniques, rather than running boring drills and scales. My students stay motivated and progress faster as a result.
Guitar - Electric / Acoustic
I started learning the electric guitar at age 12 after seeing the music video for 'Can't Stop' by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I joined my first band in 2005 and since then I have been playing, recording, writing, and gigging in diverse settings and genres.
All of this playing experience has given me a great insight into how people approach making music and he uses this to create a relaxed and supportive atmosphere for my students.
Genres I play and teach include but are not limited to…
-Rock (Rock 'n' Roll, Classic, Modern)
-Blues
-Ska / Reggae
-Metal
-Country
-Pop
I also integrate Song Writing and Music Theory into my lessons, ensuring you REALLY understand what you’re playing.

When I teach, I make it all about YOU. I always get started by clearly establishing what YOUR goals in music are.
Once we have a crystal clear vision of what you want to achieve then we will get you moving towards realising your ambitions right away.
Whether you are just starting out or if you’re optimising the finest details, you will unlock your full potential with my holistic approach, combining theory, technical exercises, and song-based learning.
We all take different paths when it comes to learning so do NOT settle for the set-menu, cookie-cutter approach. The best way to reach your full potential is to learn with a teacher who understands where you are coming from and where you would like to be.
Before we've even touched the fretboard I want to hear all about your influences, who and what inspires you, where you're currently at and where you would like to be.
Every lesson I teach is personalised to suit each student's playing level and musical tastes to help them achieve their individual goals. Lessons normally get started with a quick and fun warm up, sometimes a little jam. We'll then get stuck into the main part of the lesson where we cover material that moves you towards becoming the player you really want to be.
I understand that the best way to learn anything is to make it fun. This is why I have had so much success with building up the confidence of my students and helping them surpass their wildest expectations.
Through my lessons you will develop:
-An enhanced technical ability
-A deeper understanding of your own musicality
-A developed sense of rhythm
-A working knowledge on caring for your instrument
-A greater level of confidence
My instrumental lessons can help you in the following areas:
-Improvisation
-Economy / alternate picking
-Timing and Groove

-Understanding the role that your instrument plays as part of a band / ensemble

Simon was recommended to us by a friend when we were looking for a bass tutor for our son (11yo). In turn, I would confidently recommend Simon to anyone else. He’s been brilliant at motivating and educating our son and introducing him to new music, which keeps him practising at home - no easy feat! Simon’s also organised, accommodating and easy to communicate with, which is really helpful when we have so much other life admin to juggle. We've done a combo of in-person and online lessons and both options are great.
Really friendly, cracking jokes and observing my progress in a welcoming manner. His lessons are custom structured for my goals and the practise is manageable and fun. It’s clear Simon really cares not only about his students but about music and guitar overall! - Toby, 25
I can’t recommend Simon enough! Every lesson so far has been well executed. Simon prepares and tailors the lesson to you, so not only do you play the songs you like but they are also well selected to help you progress. He also keeps good track of your progress and goals.
Six months in to my lessons now and the improvement is unreal, I have already achieved a main goal of mine that I expected to take over a year of playing.
Communication is excellent both in and outside of the lesson. It’s obvious that Simon is an expert in his field but he’s careful not to overwhelm you with jargon or complicated music theory unless you want it. Simon shows enthusiasm in all his lessons and is great with people. I’d be amazed if you weren’t satisfied should you try lessons with him.Simon is a motivating and inspiring tutor. He teaches songs that I want to play and makes lessons fun and interesting by changing up what we learn regularly. I have had face to face and online lessons with Simon and both options have been fantastic. Simon made me feel safe, encouraged and I have made great progress working with him!
Simon is a very experienced guitarist who takes the time to understand what you want to achieve before starting lessons. He has a patient style and some great tips and tricks and has improved my playing significantly. I would highly recommend learning guitar with SImon.
Simon is honestly a completely fantastic guitar teacher. He is patient and encouraging. Always positive and incredibly supportive. He helps you really get to grips with the guitar. I cannot recommend Simon highly enough. I have been tutored by him for years. I never thought I was musical because I was told so by my old music teacher. Simon helped me develop my musical ear and my playing. I now feel so much more confident thanks to Simon. Highly recommended.
