About Reid
I’m a piano tutor with 9 years of experience and a Bachelor of Music in Sacred Music, focusing on both piano and organ. My academic background gave me a strong foundation in classical technique and liturgical music, but my passion extends beyond the traditional. I specialise in historical piano styles like ragtime, stride, and early jazz. These genres are rich in rhythm, harmony, and storytelling, and I love sharing their energy with students. Whether you're a school-aged beginner or an adult returning to the keys, I tailor each lesson to your pace and interests. I focus on building strong fundamentals while encouraging stylistic flair and improvisation. My lessons include hands-on exploration of syncopation, left-hand patterns, and authentic voicings. I also emphasise ear training and historical context to help students truly understand the music they’re playing. It's not just about hitting the right notes—it’s about capturing the spirit of the era. I’m dedicated to helping each student unlock their unique musical voice. With guidance and the right mindset, you'll find joy and confidence in every piece you play.

My teaching approach blends classical piano technique with modern music technology. I believe today’s pianist should feel comfortable on both an acoustic grand and a digital setup. That’s why I include training in digital pianos, synthesisers, and basic recording tools. We also explore DAWs like GarageBand or Ableton Live to expand your creative options. Alongside traditional skills like reading music and dynamic control, I guide students in using MIDI, layering sounds, and capturing their performances. I support students who want to stay rooted in classical tradition while exploring electronic and hybrid sounds. Whether you're preparing for competitions or just love creating new textures, we’ll find the right balance for you. Lessons are personalised and paced to suit your experience level and curiosity. I help young talents discover new ways to make music with the piano. You’ll gain both technical fluency and digital confidence. Together, we’ll unlock a bigger, more exciting world of sound.
