Discover Mandarin Tutoring in Oatley

Effective Chinese learning requires a mix of structured lessons and authentic language exposure.

• Master pinyin and tones first, since mispronouncing tones changes word meanings entirely.
• Build vocabulary through spaced repetition using flashcard apps like Anki or Pleco.
• Immerse yourself by watching Chinese dramas or listening to Mandarin podcasts.
• Speak from day one, even if you make mistakes—conversation practice accelerates fluency.

One-on-one lessons let you focus on what matters most to your goals, whether business Chinese or daily conversation.

Expect to pay approximately $35/h for one hour of Chinese tuition in Oatley.

This rate varies depending on several factors:

• Your current proficiency (HSK 1–2, HSK 3–4, or HSK 5–6)
• Whether your teacher is a native speaker or certified instructor (university degree, TCSOL certification, years of teaching experience)
• Lesson length and frequency (weekly sessions, intensive courses, or occasional lessons)
• How you take your lessons (online via video call, in-person at your home, or at the tutor's location)

Online lessons often cost less since there's no travel time for the tutor.

Mandarin has a tone sandhi rule: back-to-back third tones trigger a shift in the first syllable.

Here's how it works: 你好 (nǐ hǎo, "hello") is written with two third tones, but spoken as "ní hǎo"—the first syllable rises like a second tone.

This rule makes speech flow more smoothly—saying two falling-rising tones consecutively feels awkward to native speakers.

Practising with a native speaker ensures you internalise tone sandhi without overthinking.
