About Alex
I really enjoy the theory behind learning, and how we learn material so for me tutoring is something I am actually interested in. I try to encourage a more conceptual approach where possible, rather than just memorisation as this is not proper learning! I think it's incredibly important not to just teach the content, but teach how to learn in general. In theory, this should help you as the student progress more efficiently and eventually become a much more independent learner, a very important skill for any further education. There is never enough time to do all the revision for an exam, so efficient revision is always superior.

Session structure very closely follows how I am taught at Oxford, as clearly this is shown to work! The structure is flexible to your requirements and time constraints but generally I will send a question set a few days before each session to be completed beforehand. We will then review these questions in the session and highlight areas with a weaker understanding, then advance on the material in the question set. I find this way is most time effective as I am able to figure out what you don't know! For busier students without time to complete the question set before the session I will 'supervise' your completion of the questions during the session. A typical session can be anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour. Any longer becomes unproductive so I tend to favour a greater frequency of sessions rather than a few longer ones. I have 6 months official tutoring experience as well as years of teaching younger siblings! At A-Level I achieved 3 A*s in Chemistry, Maths and Further Maths, achieving top of my school in both Maths and Further Maths. I am an Oxford Scholar, having achieved a distinction (first) in my first year exams.
