About David

I teach foundations of the guitar by primarily using Spanish guitar techniques and songs. I'm very patient and love breaking down all the small details for complete beginners. I want to make it fun and exciting, and leave you feeling hopeful and motivated to continue playing more after each lesson.

For Flamenco, I studied in Spain on multiple occasions. For Classical, I graduated from NorthEastern IL University. I also have a passion for rock, which I've learned on my own.

Ive been around many teachers who noticeabilly don't care about a students progress, so one of my main focuses is to measure progress and make sure students are understanding the material while enjoying the journey!

I love watching students progress and grow though our lessons. It's definitely fulfilling to see your students evolve with the music. And I especially enjoy working with students who put energy, emotion and discipline into the guitar.

I started teaching over 10 years ago, as I was graduation from my University. I taught for some time at the Old Town School of Folk Music, and a couple music shops. Now I currently just teach independently and for an after school program.

I've studied multiple time in Granada, Madrid and Cordoba, Spain. I've had to the opportunity to learn from some of the best guitarists in Spain, and learn directly from the birth place of Flamenco.
I also graduated with my Bachelors in Music Performance from NorthEastern IL University.
I perform with my own ensembles, Guitarra Azul and also Ensemble Español Spanish Dance Company.

About the lesson

It depends on the age and desire of the students. Usually I start with a beginner book that I like to use by Mel Bay. I also bring in my own separate sheets from different books which I like to mix in. And lastly, some of my rhythmic teachings can also be orally, which I find comes easier than trying to read. So I basically teach with a combination of methods, adapted to the student.

I've worked with Chicago Public School kids in an after school program. The ages were around 7-10.
Besides them, most of my private students are adults, either total beginners or they play guitar, but haven't played Spanish guitar.

Make sure they have experience in that style. Schedule a call and have a chat, exchange a few questions. This way you'll make sure you're both a right fit and also a good way to see if you vibe with their personality.

I'm currently working an extensive e-course to accompany my teaching routine. I'm exciting that I finally have it outlined and planned out. Looking forward to filming it!
