About Isabella
I have 13 years of teaching experience and hold a Bachelor of Physical Education. Throughout my coaching career, I have worked with beginners, junior competitors, club players, and experienced tournament participants who wanted to strengthen both technical ability and strategic understanding. I enjoy helping students realize that chess develops concentration, analytical thinking, patience, creativity, and disciplined decision-making that benefits many areas of life beyond competition.
One student began coaching after experiencing repeated losses against stronger opponents despite having excellent tactical ability. We focused on positional understanding, endgame fundamentals, and structured game analysis while gradually strengthening tournament preparation and confidence. After several months of dedicated training, the student earned significant rating improvements, achieved consistent tournament success, and became much more comfortable competing against experienced players.
I believe meaningful improvement comes from curiosity, consistent practice, and thoughtful self-analysis rather than memorizing moves alone. My coaching environment encourages students to ask questions, explore different strategic ideas, and learn from every game while building confidence through steady progress. Helping learners achieve personal milestones while developing a lifelong appreciation for chess remains the most rewarding aspect of my profession.
Outside coaching, I enjoy studying historical world championship matches, analyzing contemporary grandmaster tournaments, solving advanced endgame studies, and researching modern chess training techniques. These experiences allow me to introduce current strategic concepts, practical tournament preparation, and engaging learning activities into every lesson. I would be delighted to help you strengthen your chess skills, improve your strategic understanding, and achieve your personal and competitive chess ambitions.

I begin by understanding each student's current playing level, competitive experience, learning style, and long-term aspirations before designing an individualized coaching program. This ensures every lesson addresses specific strengths and weaknesses while maintaining steady improvement. My coaching combines theoretical instruction, practical gameplay, tactical exercises, and detailed analysis to develop well-rounded chess players who think independently and confidently.
Opening preparation focuses on understanding strategic ideas, common plans, and typical pawn structures rather than memorizing lengthy variations. Students learn how to select openings that match their playing style while mastering principles such as central control, rapid development, king safety, initiative, and smooth piece coordination. Middlegame instruction develops tactical awareness, calculation accuracy, positional evaluation, attack construction, defensive techniques, and long-term planning through carefully selected master games and interactive training positions.
Endgame lessons strengthen practical knowledge of king and pawn endings, rook endgames, bishop and knight endings, opposition, triangulation, zugzwang, and conversion techniques that frequently determine tournament outcomes. Tactical puzzle sessions improve visualization, pattern recognition, and calculation under time pressure while encouraging disciplined thinking before every move. Every practice and tournament game is analyzed thoroughly to identify recurring mistakes, highlight successful decisions, and establish clear objectives for future improvement.
Students preparing for scholastic championships, club competitions, state and national tournaments, online rating improvement, or FIDE-rated events receive structured training schedules, regular performance assessments, and personalized tournament preparation. I continuously refine lesson plans according to each student's development while providing targeted exercises that encourage disciplined practice, consistent progress, and long-term competitive success.
