About Agathe
I am a professional musician, active in the avant garde scene since 2006, based in London where I moved in 2016. I studied classical music at the Conservatoire of Bourgoin in France where I am from. I also developed my improvisational skills by playing with lots of different people in my career. I graduate with an MA in Electroacoustic composition Music School of Villeurbanne, near Lyon. I play both acoustic and amplified music depending on the project I am involved in. I am an enthusiastic teacher as I think the violin is a beautiful instrument to learn, in so many different ways, from classical to folk or pop, rock... The way I learned myself is various and I like to transmit that to my students. I found it so profoundly rewarding when a pupil who didn't know how to play or read music at first, can achieve a level to enjoy themselves, or to teach someone who is keen to learn more, progress and expand the knowledge of the instrument. I was 5 years old when I told my parents I want to learn the violin and the passion has never left me since, I want to share it !

My teaching method is engaging and playful. I am versatile with the approach of the instrument and adapt the lesson to the level and favourite music genre of the pupil. The lesson is 1 hour with playtime, learning the reading, the rhythm and a bit of theory. I like to end up with 10 minutes of total improvisation as a duet to develop the listening and the musicality. It often frees the player and helps to be creative. I am specialised with beginners and intermediate students. I can also teach electric violin with all the techniques of adding effects and loops, as well as expanding the knowledge for compositional skills. Age 7 to adults, no previous experience in music necessary but a passion for it and a bit of dedication to practise and learn!

Perfect! I have really enjoyed learning the fiddle with Agathe. I was not quite a beginner, but pretty much. She has made me feel much more confident about playing and combined learning music that I recognise with a focus on mastering technical aspects of playing that I was sorely lacking. She's very personable and makes learning fun, even when your progress seems slow. I highly recommend her.

I have been learning violin with Agathe for three years. Agathe is a brilliant teacher: she is calm, patient and most importantly enthusiastic - her love for the violin and music is contagious! Agathe personalised the sessions and the materials to my musical taste and my needs. As a mature learner I never thought I would be able to play the violin, yet here I am - and I love it! I cannot recommend Agathe enough!
Agathe has been teaching my son for close to 5 years now, and she’s so wonderful with him—she’s always able to get the best out of him, even when he’s feeling less than motivated. Anyone would be lucky to have her as a teacher—I can’t recommend her highly enough.
From the moment we met Agathe we liked her instantly. She is warm, friendly and just has a positive energy.
As a teacher, she is great! She has a flexible teaching approach which works well with the changing needs and growth of the student. She is full of resources and sets appropriate homework.
Her prices are VERY competitive (I did the research). For the quality of teaching and development we have seen in our daughter over the few months she has been working with Agathe, we are definitely getting value for the money.
Our daughter eagerly looks forward to her lesson very week!View more recommendations
