About Rachel
My love for photography began in my high school darkroom, where I discovered the magic of the photographic image. I earned my BFA in Art History from the Savannah College of Art and Design, where I minored in Photography, learning how to shoot and edit color film, produce inkjet prints, and use a large format (view) camera. As a current MFA candidate at the University of South Florida, I teach Beginning Photography to students, a course that I have created and customized to make learning photography fun, engaging and relevant.

I want to meet students where they are with their photography skills. If a student is picking up a camera for the first time, we will begin with the basics of exposure and the workings of a camera. Or, if they have some experience, we can jump right in to advanced editing and composition techniques, focusing on cultivating the student’s photographic eye. Through a series of lectures, informative videos, assignments, and critiques, each student is challenged to use the camera as a creative tool and develop technical competency alongside creative literacy. I specialize in analogue techniques and the history of photography, and am always eager to share my knowledge with others.
