About Andrew
- What kind of experience do you have?
As versatile performer I am involved in lots of different projects. I have played in orchestras, chamber ensembles, musicals, recording sessions for pop musicians, rock and funk bands as well as many jazz ensembles. I have performed for BBC Radio 3 and BBC Radio Scotland on numerous occasions as well as performance on Chinese State Television, performances for the members of the Royal Family and tours with orchestras across Europe. Some venues I have played at recently include the Royal Albert Hall, Ronnie Scott's, The Pizza Express, Barbican Hall, Edinburgh, Glasgow, and London Jazz Festivals.
As a teacher and educator I have run classical and jazz workshops on the Island of Mauritius, schools in East London, I have tutored on the National Youth Jazz Orchestra of Scotland Summer School and the Guildhall Jazz summer school and I have also been teach privately for the last few years.

I have one for Scotland and I am currently awaiting one for England.

I am an enthusiastic teacher who welcomes students of all ages and abilities. I have a vast experience of performing music in a variety of styles. My lessons are designed specifically for each individuals interests and needs.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach classical and jazz Double Bass using the french bow and Bass Guitar. I cover all areas including how to hold the instrument (standing and sitting), right and left hand technique, scales, studies and exercises to develop technique and dexterity on the instrument, pieces to work on musicality and music theory.
For those wishing to study jazz I will the above and walking bass lines, improvisation, soloing, jazz harmony, history and rhythm.
I also teach theory and aural skills separately if you are preparing for graded exams.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I won the BBC Radio Scotland Young Jazz Musician of the Year in 2009
I completed my undergraduate degree in the summer of 2012 at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where i received my Bachelor of Music (Hons) in Jazz Double Bass. I studied jazz with Steve Watts and classically with Colin Paris.
I also have a Scottish Diploma In Jazz (2007) where i won the Linda Trahan Memorial Award for the most outstanding performance.
- How much do you charge?
Lessons are £30 per hour for individual lessons at my studio. I am also happy to travel to you for a lesson but there is an extra £5 travel charge.
- Where do you teach?
I am based in central London. I can travel to students' homes as well.
- When are you available?
My availability is different every week due to my performance and rehearsal schedule but I am usually available during the day and some early evenings.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach all ages and all abilities whether you are just starting as a beginner or wish to pursue a career as a musician.
