About Angelika
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have taught violin, oboe, composition, and theory on an individual basis for six years from ages 6-30.
I have had work experience in violin teaching in which I was a teaching assistant (2007-2011) with my violin teacher and I was often asked to take over the lesson. This experience allowed me to learn how to deal with the more difficult children who were sometimes hard to motivate in lessons. I have worked closely with this teacher for four years and have learnt so much from her in the way of structuring lessons and maintaining interest within the children.

- Tell me about your qualifications.
I became a scholar at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama after winning the Jack Petchey Award for 'Outstanding Achievement' in 2011. In that year, I also achieved a DipABRSM in oboe performance and went on to perform Mozart's 'Oboe Quartet' in Buckingham Palace, in the presence of Princess Anne, in 2012. I am the Founder and Principal Conductor of the Johannes Ensemble, and have been conducting for six years, starting with serenades groups in the London Schools Symphony Orchestra. I have studied with Peter Ash and am currently studying with David Corkhill. Conducting highlights for me last year were leading successful performances of Sibelius' and Brahms' violin concertos with the Johannes Ensemble. I also greatly enjoyed taking part in the Aberystwyth Conducting Course, last year, led by Toby Purser.
Over the last few years, through competing, I have won the 'Howarth Prize' for the 'Most Outstanding Reed Player' at the North London Festival, the 'Burnham Cup' for the 'Most Outstanding Woodwind Player' at Marlow Music Festival and among these several Gold Medals. Having studied Composition with Kate Romano at GSMD, it has become an important role in my musical life, and I have just finished my first choral work, 'The Rise of the Pelican', set to Psalm 102. This year, my piece for solo clarinet, 'Mechanical Birds', was premiered by David Mears (Ex-NYO, Cambridge) in West Road Concert Hall, Cambridge, in a Lunchtime Concert: 'Eight Propositions, Five Phases and Three Birdsongs'.
Orchestral playing forms a vital role in my life having played with various ensembles, including the Orion Orchestra and Les Voix Nouvelles as well as taking part in side-by-side projects with the London Philharmonic Orchestra (violin), and the BBC Symphony Orchestra (oboe). More recently, I have been awarded a place to study at the University of York, where I look forward to undertaking a further music degree this year.

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
Would be happy to do some Skype lessons, or on-the-phone tutorials too.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
I have a friendly approach to teaching, always being encouraging and supportive whether it be preparing for an exam of just for fun. I like to inspire younger pupils to really enjoy music and find their voice within their instrument. I would like to build a solid technique for them to work from which will allow them to grow as a musician without facing technical complications later on. For adult learners, I enjoy teaching in a more relaxed way and will cater to individual needs, preparing parts for orchestral rehearsals or just working through repertoire that interests them.
