About Michael

I am a student at the ANU studying astrophysics, I have a huge passion for science and mathematics and believe that with the right tuition anyone can ace these subjects - and enjoy it while they do! I also have a degree in psychology and enjoy meeting people and engaging with them, my hope is that we will find a shared enthusiasm for the subject and learn together. I am inspired by a multitude of great teachers; from Richard Feynman to Carl Sagan for their beautiful oration and presentation to Walter Lewin of MIT for his clear and precise description of the mathematics underlying physics - I intend to draw heavily on their work and encapsulate both a sense of wonder and an accurate understanding of the content.

About the lesson

The key to learning science and maths is not being a genius - it is appreciating the underlying beauty of the ideas that are being presented, and hungering to dig deeper. The study of science is powered by hard work, not big brains, and if you are willing to glimpse the profound implications at the heart of subjects such as physics and maths, you will be motivated to work hard in the same way that you are motivated to solve a well posed riddle.

I am inspired by a multitude of great teachers; from Richard Feynman to Carl Sagan for their beautiful oration and presentation to Walter Lewin of MIT for his clear and precise description of the mathematics underlying physics - I will draw heavily on their work and hope to encapsulate both a sense of wonder and an accurate understanding of the content.

I intend to actually make the content interesting - I believe that presented the right way, math and physics are truly fascinating: we will often detour into the philosophy and history of science, pondering deep questions along the way. Mathematics is not some hum-drum repetitive exercise, it is a battle, an interrogation of information in which students will need to show courage and fortitude in the face of implacable adversaries. Similarly Physics is not a collection of dumb forces bumping against each other, it is the study of the ultimate meaning and foundation of our world, and one of the true frontiers of human knowledge.

A word of warning however, as we peer behind the curtain of reality the comfortable notions of time, space and existence itself begin to blur and warp and many who enter never view the world in the same way again.

So join me and see how deep the rabbit hole goes, if you dare.
