• 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

  My interest in law developed during my studies, when I realised that law is not simply about memorising rules—it is about understanding how those rules work and applying them to real-life situations. I particularly enjoyed subjects that required analytical thinking, problem-solving and the ability to construct a clear legal argument.
  
  My interest in teaching developed alongside my legal career. Over the years, I discovered that I particularly enjoy taking a complicated legal concept and explaining it in a simple, structured way. Seeing a student go from feeling confused about a topic to confidently answering a question is one of the most rewarding aspects of tutoring for me.
  
  I have several years of teaching experience, as well as legal experience, which allows me to combine academic knowledge with practical insight.

• 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

  I teach UK law, with a particular focus on helping students understand legal concepts rather than simply memorising them. I enjoy working with students on Civil Litigation and Civil Procedure, Contract Law, Tort Law, Criminal Law, legal problem questions, case analysis and exam preparation.
  
  I particularly enjoy Civil Litigation because it requires students to think logically and apply procedural rules carefully. I also enjoy helping students develop the skill of reading a legal problem, identifying the relevant issue and then applying the correct law to reach a reasoned conclusion.
  
  I don’t necessarily have a topic that I dislike teaching. However, I find that students sometimes struggle with areas that involve a large number of procedural rules or exceptions. Those are actually some of my favourite areas to teach because I enjoy breaking them down into manageable steps.

• 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

  Yes. I have been fortunate to have teachers and mentors who demonstrated that being knowledgeable is only part of being a good educator. The teachers who influenced me most were those who were approachable, patient and willing to explain something in a different way when a student did not understand it the first time.
  
  That has strongly influenced my own teaching style. I believe a good teacher should never make a student feel embarrassed for asking a question. Sometimes a student doesn’t need more information—they simply need the information explained differently.

• 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

  I believe the most important qualities are patience, clarity, adaptability and empathy.
  
  Every student learns differently. Some students understand a concept immediately when it is explained theoretically, while others need examples, questions or practical scenarios before it becomes clear.
  
  A good tutor should therefore be able to adapt rather than simply repeat the same explanation.
  
  I also believe a tutor should encourage students to become independent thinkers. My aim is not for students to depend on me for every answer, but to develop the confidence and analytical skills to approach a legal problem themselves.

• 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

  One of the most memorable experiences from my teaching has been seeing students struggle with a topic that initially seemed extremely complicated, only for them to understand it after approaching it from a different angle.
  
  It taught me an important lesson about teaching: a student’s difficulty with a subject does not necessarily mean that the student lacks ability. Sometimes the explanation simply has not been presented in a way that works for them.
  
  That is something I continue to keep in mind when tutoring. If a student doesn’t understand something, I don’t consider the lesson unsuccessful. I consider it a challenge to find another way of explaining it.

• 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

  Law can initially feel overwhelming because students have to deal with legislation, cases, legal terminology, procedural rules and, most importantly, the application of those rules to different factual situations.
  
  One of the biggest challenges for students is moving from “I know the law” to “I know how to apply the law.” These are two very different skills.
  
  I therefore encourage students to practise applying legal principles to problems rather than relying entirely on memorisation. I also teach students how to structure their answers logically, identify the important issues and avoid spending too much time on irrelevant information.

• 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

  My biggest passion is teaching and helping students develop confidence in their abilities.
  
  Within law, I particularly enjoy analytical subjects and legal problem-solving. I like the process of taking a complicated legal question, breaking it down into smaller issues and working through it logically.
  
  For me, one of the best parts of teaching is seeing a student eventually say, “I understand it now.” That moment is much more rewarding than simply completing a lesson.

• 8) What makes you a Superprof?

  I believe what makes me a Superprof is the combination of legal experience, teaching experience and a student-focused approach.
  
  I don’t believe tutoring should be about simply delivering information. My goal is to understand where a student is struggling and then tailor the lesson accordingly.
  
  I am particularly focused on helping students develop understanding, analytical skills and exam technique, rather than encouraging them to memorise large amounts of information without understanding it.
  
  Whether a student is preparing for a law degree, BSB-related assessments, civil litigation examinations or simply wants to strengthen their understanding of UK law, I aim to create a supportive environment where they can ask questions, make mistakes and improve.
  
  My philosophy is simple: law becomes much easier when you understand how to think like a lawyer—not just what the law says.
