About Brian

Here’s the reality: Most Australian students struggle with maths—not because they’re not capable, but because they’re studying in ways that don’t work. Many spend hundreds of hours lost in inefficient study methods, relying on resources and teaching that fail to meet their needs.

But there is a solution to every problem.

Introducing:

Brian Lee
Principle and Author, Brian Lee Academy

----

"
Hi. I am Brian, founder and author of Brian Lee Academy.

I am a full-time maths tutor and have thus far helped hundreds of students achieve incredible success in the HSC for over a decade.

What started out as a part-time job has grown into a passion for me; the visible impact I have had on my students’ lives has made it an easy decision.

During University, I’ve had the great opportunity to educate a large cohort of students, all whom I’ve guided onto a clear path of academic success.

I have successfully been granted the Dean’s Merit Award - not once, but twice.

I have been able to help different students improve their marks from 60% to 98%, 34% to 82%.

My students typically move from Rank 50-100th to 1st, 2nd and 3rd within a term or two.

Major part of my students received band 6s in Advanced (2U) Maths and E4 in Extension 1 (3U) Maths.

Over the past decade, I’ve developed a strong ability to identify common mistakes and understand their underlying causes.

This skill has come from my experience tutoring a diverse range of students, where I’ve noticed recurring patterns in the errors they make across various topics. Based on students-orientated teaching approach, I can often predict the types of questions they are likely to miss on an exam.

I am currently creating my own original textbooks to help more students state-wide acquire the depth of understanding required of them to become a high band 6/E4 student. My textbooks will be available online in the future.

I am also planning on creating online courses. I will explain theories, solve many types of examples, provide practice sets, full solutions and homework (Trial and HSC Exam Style Questions).

- Past Paper Booklets (gathered from internal, trial examinations from the top selective schools as well as HSC papers all sorted by Topic)

STRUCTURE:

- 1:6 Small Group Lessons

- STUDENT-CENTRED LEARNING: All Students study by their own sequence, at their own pace (for the most personalised learning experience)

(Just as effective as a 1:1 Private Lesson + Just as engaging as a group lesson with a bunch of like-minded friends together - it's hitting two birds with one stone!)

- Q&A: Actively Collect and Throw Questions and Allow Tutors Help You Fill in Your Skill-Gaps. (Instead of Waiting on Them to Spoon-Feed You Information You’re Not Ready to Digest)

- Topic Tests: Every Topic has a Test Paper to Track Your Progress and Identify Skill-Gaps Required of Revision

- Awards: Certificates & Trophies to Celebrate Achievements Together

- Events: Occasionally Join the Movies, Eat Out, In-class Pizza Party, etc.

WHAT DOES STUDENT-CENTRED LEARNING MEAN AND WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?

Student-Centered Learning focuses on the needs, interests, and learning styles of students rather than traditional teacher-led instruction.

1. Personalised Learning: Tailors instruction to individual student needs.
2. Active Engagement: Encourages participation and critical thinking.
3. Collaboration: Promotes teamwork and social interaction.
4. Choice: Gives students a say in topics and methods, enhancing motivation.
5. Feedback and Reflection: Provides regular feedback and encourages self-reflection.
6. Enhanced Engagement: Increases student motivation and interest.
7. Improved Retention: Facilitates better understanding and memory.
8. Skill Development: Fosters critical thinking and communication skills.

STUDENTS’ REVIEWS:

Review 1: Joshua Y. (Public High School)

- Studying Year 10 (Advanced) at BLA in Year 8
- Received 98% in the latest exam at school

“I am delighted by the opportunity to accelerate with full support from Brian - the 1:1 help and guidance I get from within a small class has really helped me fill in my personal gaps.”

Review 2: Harison S. (Semi-Selective High School)

- Studying Year 10 Maths (Advanced) at BLA in Year 7
- Casually gets 100% at school

"I wouldn't have had the chance to accelerate three years ahead without Brian's student-centred teaching style. Thanks to Brian, advancing in maths has significantly boosted my confidence."

Review 3: Julian K. (Private High School)

- Studying Year 11 Maths (Extension 1) at BLA in Year 9
- Averages 94% at school

"I used to have trouble grasping basic trigonometry in other tutoring classes, but with Brian's help, I've moved on to Year 11 trigonometry. It's incredible how he explains complex concepts in such simple terms. Now, Year 9 Maths feels way too easy!"

Review 4: Esther S. (Selective High School) Year 12

- Studying Year 12 Maths (Extension 1)
- From hesitating to choose extension maths, to now crushing every topic ahead of school

"I never thought I’d study extension maths until I met Brian at Brian Lee Academy. He has an incredible ability to break down complex concepts into easy-to-understand terms with his unique examples and ways of explanation. His slogan speaks for itself - "Australian Maths. Made Easy.' Thanks to Brian's guidance, I now feel confident tackling challenging topics and genuinely enjoy learning math. Except combinatorics… I need to go back and revise that again. Nevertheless, highly recommend Brian to anyone looking to excel!"

HOW MY STUDENTS MASTER MATHS TOPICS:

Step 1. Priming

Skim through the entire topic from start to end. Getting the big picture of what you're about to learn.
(You are preparing your brain to absorb and retain new information more effectively)

Step 2. Exercising

Delve into the details with provided theories and worked examples to get your head around the new idea.
Complete easy, intermediate, hard exercises to get familar with the new concepts.

Apply the AMR Method: Attempt, Mark, and Reattempt.

Step 3. Chunking

Textbooks often divide topics into sections, but they rarely categorise sections by question type.

Organise the types of questions into categories that make sense to you.

Step 3. Testing and Tracking

Complete a topic test.

Do not flick over your notes during the test.

Track your result and revise where needed.

Apply the AMR Method: Attempt, Mark, and Reattempt.

Step 4. Mastering

Active Recall with your bundle of flash-cards or your A4 sized question bank.

Share with friends and teach them where needed.
