About Frank
Fangzhou Ye is a pianist and educator currently based in New York. He has studied at The Juilliard School continuously since entering the Pre-College Division in 2016 and recently completed both his Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees in Piano Performance. His principal teachers have included Yoheved Kaplinsky, Martin Canin, Ernest Barretta, Sir Stephen Hough, and Shai Wosner.
As a performer, Fangzhou has appeared in major concert venues throughout Europe, Asia, and the United States, including Flagey Concert Hall in Brussels, Helsinki Music Centre in Finland, Bolzano City Concert Hall in Italy, Sendai City Concert Hall in Japan, and the Forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing. In 2023, he won the Juilliard Piano Concerto Competition and subsequently performed Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 2 at Alice Tully Hall under Tito Muñoz, receiving praise for the performance's technical brilliance and musical depth.
Fangzhou has also participated in many of the world's leading piano competitions, including appearances as a quarterfinalist or semifinalist in the Rubinstein International Piano Competition, Queen Elisabeth Competition, Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition, and the Sendai International Music Competition. Additional distinctions include the Grand Prix at the Ocean Music International Competition, Gold Medal at the Beijing International Chopin Competition for Young Pianists, Third Prize at the Ettlingen International Piano Competition, and multiple Juilliard Nordmann Scholarship awards.
Alongside his performing career, Fangzhou has maintained a strong commitment to piano pedagogy for more than five years. Beginning in high school, he regularly substituted for his former piano teacher in China during summer breaks and has since taught more than fifty students in both China and the United States. His students have included young musicians from the Primary School and Middle School affiliated with the Central Conservatory of Music and the China Conservatory of Music. Many of his students have received prizes in competitions such as the Xinghai Cup National Piano Competition, the Pearl River Kayserburg International Youth Piano Competition, the KAWAI Asia Piano Competition, and the Steinway National Youth Piano Competition.
At Juilliard, Fangzhou developed a particular interest in educational psychology and piano pedagogy. During his work, he became increasingly fascinated by how exceptional musical growth can be cultivated in people through different ages. Observing the artistry and maturity of his students inspired him to further explore the educational philosophies and teaching systems that make such development possible.
Fangzhou believes that performing and teaching continually strengthen one another. His experience working with students has deepened his own artistic understanding and reinforced his belief that great teaching is one of the highest forms of musicianship. He is passionate about helping young pianists build strong technical foundations, develop artistic independence, and discover a lifelong connection to music.
