About Opal
With more than 3 years of guitar teaching experience and a BS in Audio Engineering (Guitar Focus), I specialise in jazz and blues improvisation. My lessons cater to school students, hobbyists, and professionals alike. Modal scales, arpeggios, and dominant seventh theory form the foundation of every session. Bebop phrasing and stylistic detail are emphasised to create a unique improvisational voice. I have worked with students from Intermediate to Advanced levels. Those preparing for gigs receive focused guidance on solo construction and timing. My teaching style is supportive, interactive, and goal-oriented. Students learn to convert theory into expressive musical ideas. Technical exercises are paired with creative exploration to develop fluency. Each lesson is adapted to the student’s goals and skill level. Confidence and individuality are central to every session. I love helping students discover their unique musical voice. Together, we’ll start a journey of spontaneous, expressive performance.

The methodology emphasises guitar ownership and tone mastery alongside playing skills. Students learn string replacement, proper tuning, and basic setup for optimal performance. Understanding electronics and effects pedals is incorporated to shape individual sound. The Campfire Strummer practises gear management for reliable performances anywhere. The Worship Leader receives guidance for consistent sound in live settings. Lessons combine theory, practical exercises, and hands-on troubleshooting. Students explore truss rod adjustments, bridge setup, and pickup selection. Signal chains and pedal usage are taught with practical application. Independence and confidence in gear care are a primary goal. Tone shaping exercises reinforce personal style. Each session is structured, goal-oriented, and supportive. Students leave equipped to maintain their instrument and maximise sound. Guitar care becomes a natural extension of expressive playing.
