About Marvin

I’m a basketball coach/player who played at college level in China and Australia. Over 10 years of coaching / playing I’ve throughly enjoyed the ups and downs of player development. The lessons learnt on the court often expand to all other areas of life. It has been a challenging yet extremely rewarding journey knowing I can make a positive contribution to player's career / life.

As a coach, I focus on developing fundamental skills that translate to the game, building adaptability and resilience to solve problems independently. More importantly, my sessions are also focused on coaching effort, engagement and mindset, that goes beyond making or missing of a shot.

Skill and Age Focus
- Youth Development (all level from age 8-16)
- All other levels welcome

Apart from basketball, I’m an engineer by profession and a musician.

About the lesson

With years of playing, developing others and learning from various coaches and mentors, I have a good understanding of the physical and mental skills that will apply to the game, as well as the mindset required to excel on court.

I have developed systems and tools to ensure that my athletes are practicing the skills fit to their level and needs, and focusing on those that will translate to real game scenarios.

Basketball is a game of angles, skills, mindset and flow. The sessions will incorporate block and random training, as well as detailed breakdowns, depends on the needs of athelets.

Training will be physically and mentally challenging. I put my athletes in challenging scenarios where they will struggle, fail, and make mistakes, and try again through my guidance. Overtime, I've seen young players develop skills, as well as mental resilience that will benefit them beyond the courts.

A session might look like this (subject to client needs):
- Ball handling / Movement prep
- Game speed drills / Detail breakdown
- Conditional shooting / range building.
- Small sided games
- A mix between block training (build muscle memory) and random training (mimicing chaotic nature of the game).
- Long term goal setting
