About Brooke
Hi! My name is Brooke Bond, and I’m a bassist living and playing near Cambridge. I moved here from Des Moines, Iowa in the summer of 2018, and I love the music community here.
I started playing music at five years old. My dad is a bassist and an orchestra teacher, so he got me started on violin lessons with one of the other music teachers in the district. Violin was all right, and I played in the school orchestra for a couple of years, but in fourth grade, after the demonstration of all the instruments, I chose to switch to the double bass.
I loved it! Playing in the bass section of an orchestra is one of the best feelings ever. I started playing piano that year as well, and that teacher is still one of my top teachers in my life. I carried on playing double bass and piano for the next five years, but in ninth grade I started what would become my passion – jazz.
Playing bass led me to attend the University of Northern Iowa, and I graduated with a degree in Jazz Studies. A week later I flew to San Juan, Puerto Rico and signed on my first cruise ship contract. I worked for Royal Caribbean for about six years with some time in Des Moines between contracts. Music led to me travelling all over the Caribbean and Mediterranean Seas, Alaska, Hawaii, Australia and New Zealand. I met my husband while working on ships, and we decided to start our land lives together in England. Now we’re based near Cambridge, and I have loved meeting and joining the musicians in the area.
