About Tom

Luuk Bergervoet and Tom Jacobson, both in the final phase of our Electronic Music education at the CvA. Besides BEATBUILDER, Luuk is one half of the duo Match Box and Tom is finalizing his first release as Pantomo. Tom also works as a tutor at pre-university and university level.

During our time at the CvA we've been trained in applying the AMACK system, specially developed to measure, track and stimulate musical progress of students. AMACK is uniquely suitable for all age categories and levels. For more information, visit the official AMACK website.

About the lesson

BEATBUILDER
My partner in crime Luuk and I developed BEATBUILDER during our graduation year at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. BEATBUILDER is a teaching program with the aim of encouraging people to create something beautiful during the pandemic: music!

The course consists of a FREE trial lesson followed by eight sessions of 30 to 60 minutes and can be extended or shortened in consultation. After the trial lesson, we design a learning plan, including a personal profile and individually tailored learning objectives.

We pull you into the wonderful world of synthesizers, drum machines and software and introduce you to many different instruments, techniques and software in a playful way. We'll alternate this with technical lessons after some time when you're ready. This way you'll not only have fun making music, but also acquire a deeper learning experience about the underlying mechanisms.

Halfway through the course and at the end we make time for moments of reflection. We map out your time with us by means of a report and a discussion where we look at your progress and points for improvement. For more information about our teaching method, see the section “Who Are We”.

I met Tom through a mutual friend and decided to give electronic music a shot. I already had some gear (mostly Behringer clones) but didn't really know what I was doing. Tom really showed me how you can really get tons of sounds out of seemingly cheap stuff. Vey happy about the lessons!!
