About Neal
I teach guitar at two schools here in Seattle, Washington and on my own privately. My approach to teaching is first with the mindset, "let's have fun" mixed in with having fun we work on building real skills and technique that give you the ability to make the most out of your practice! I believe the process of learning about music helps you to build, "life skills" which will helps all aspects your life and can help you find your place in the arts or find the arts in your place.
My pleasure in teaching is inspired by watching a student grow, build skills, and open up to different styles of music. Especially when a student achieves their personal goals (recitals, auditions, talent shows, university acceptance, performances, or just playing the songs they love around the campfire). Always happy to help.
In addition to teaching, I am a performer and composer and have been performing for many years. I currently play with several Seattle based groups such as Neal Adams & Friends, Critical Mass Big Band, These Certain Birds, Jazz Underground Big Band, and Shear Jazz.

I have worked as a music educator for the last 20 years after completing his Bachelor of Music in Jazz Composition at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts in 1998. I attended California State University Fullerton and studied with 7 string guitar master Ron Eschete and received two scholarships from the “Friends of Jazz.” I have played in several jazz, funk, and soul music ensembles and also as a musician in many musical theater productions. Currently, I teach the Guitar, Electric Bass, and Ukulele six days a week at Sound Music School, Off the Wall School of Music, and freelancing as a teacher and performer in the greater Seattle area. Native to the Los Angeles area, I have made Seattle my permanent home as of 2015. I have been lucky enough to learn and share the stage with many greats such as Milo Peterson, Brad Rabuchin, Larry Knoose, David Becker, James Moody, Bob Florence, Mark White, Garrison Fewell to name a few. I enjoy teaching students of all ages beginning to advanced. Jazz, blues, rock, folk, reggae, and classical are some of his favorite styles. I love teaching you the music you love as well as some of the favorites I find inspiring.
