About Elyssa
I'm a mechanical engineering graduate from McMaster University with over 10 years of experience working with students. Over time, I've become familiar with all different learning styles and how different students approach challenges.
I'm especially attentive to moments where students begin to feel discouraged or overwhelmed, and I aim to create a learning environment where we can address these problems patiently and without judgment. Building confidence is just as important to me as improving grades, especially in subjects like math and physics where self-confidence can be difficult to earn.
Outside of tutoring, I love all things creative, including watching movies, listening to music, reading, and writing!

My focus is on understanding how each student thinks and adapting my approach to their individual learning style and pace.
A typical lesson involves reviewing current material, addressing problem areas, and reinforcing understanding through guided practice. For students looking for enrichment or exam preparation (including AP-level exams), I also introduce more advanced problems to build confidence and problem-solving skills.
All of my lessons are offered in both English and French, and I work with students from grade 6 to 1st year of university, including those who need support catching up and high-achievers looking to go beyond their coursework.
