About Stephen
I am a recently retired scientist and university professor who has utilized and taught Perl/Python coding for a number of years.
My research work includes setting up and querying (using Perl and SQL) large online medicinal plants databases at USDA, writing Perl and SQL queries of plant genome data at National Agricultural Library (USDA), and creating visualization and query tools for large scale human, animal, and bacterial genome comparisons at NIH, TGen, and NAU.

My teaching has been at the university level, and I utilize a learn-by-doing approach.
I begin each lesson with scripting/programming details and then give assignments using real and simulated genomics data, including processing of genomic sequences from GenBank (NCBI) and other online databases.
