About Maxime

Being a tutor that offers one-on-one sessions with students I would like to assure them of the confidentiality of our meetings and truly try to offer them a personalized experience to meet their unique learning needs. I try as much as possible to offer interactive sessions where the student can ask questions and participate in the learning process instead of feeling forced to sit down and study. I was a math tutor for the Collège Catholique Samuel-Genest in Ottawa in the past for students with dyslexia and other learning disabilities and thus understand that the traditional teaching styles offered by most school boards can be hard for some. This is why I try to personalize my sessions to the individual student in order to find the best way possible for them to learn and retain the information they need to succeed in their classes.

About the lesson

My name is Maxime Landry, I am a 24-year-old student currently completing my degree in biology at the University of Ottawa in order to lead a career in the field of education. I offer completely bilingual (Français and English) tutoring for both subjects at differing levels of education and truly want to promote the importance of learning and finding ways to make said learning experience as exciting and straightforward as possible for my students. I offer these tutoring services for students of: - Middle School - High School - Undergraduate classes in college, Cégep and university My expertise is contained within the realm of evolutionary biology and physiology of anatomical structures but can also help students with the more chemical and microbiological aspects of biology. As it pertains to history, my primary expertise is in the fields of the history of wars, American, Canadian history as well as the history of music. I am also familiar with the histories of more classic civilizations (Greek and Roman) and can offer guidance in those subjects as well. My goals as a tutor are to assess the areas of difficulties students may have with a certain subject and new and more intuitive ways for students to comprehend these subjects that may not be offered by their teachers. I first meet with my students in a preliminary session to properly establish the subject of interest and discuss what aspects of said subject pose issues for the student in order to better mold each case to the student for a better chance of success. Once I've met with a student and established the goal of the tutoring lessons, a typical tutoring session begins with a brief review of the previous lesson to reinforce retention, followed by setting clear objectives for the current session. I would then introduce new material through guided instruction, often using examples and interactive questions to ensure comprehension. Students are given time to practice the material with support, and the session ends with a short recap and discussion of homework or next steps to reinforce learning and track progress.
