About Lyla
High school students often find that biological concepts remain abstract until they actually see the mechanisms in motion. I admit that I struggled to visualize mitosis when I first encountered it at the undergraduate level. My MS Biological Sciences from Stanford informs how I break down food webs, energy flow, enzymes, metabolism, and microbiology for my students.
Physiology and biological drawing remain central to my instructional style. Data analysis and graphs frequently trip up students, so we spend significant time mastering those specific outputs. Studying for AP, honors, IB HL or SL exams involves a rigorous transition from high school to the pre-med path I walked at Duke and Hopkins. It is rewarding to guide others through the same intellectual evolution.
