About Rebecca
Hi, my name is Becca, and I have my PhD in molecular biology. I have been tutoring for 17+ years, and I pride myself on my ability to effectively communicate information to students with all different learning styles. I taught developmental neurobiology and general biology during graduate school, as well as teaching general chemistry for CLAS (Campus Learning Assistance Services) at UCSB during my undergrad. In addition, I’ve tutored privately in subjects ranging across many math, science, and humanities disciplines, from elementary school level up through college. I truly value the experience of working with each individual student. I feel that only by being exposed to many different modalities of thought am I able to expand my teaching methodology. In my free time, I am an avid traveler and practicing yogi.

Overall, I strive to instill critical thinking skills above all else. I realize that too often students are trying to learn only to the next test rather than in the full scope of the subject or course. It is my goal to utilize the Socratic method in order to get students to start asking questions and problem solving. In doing this, I hope to help students to build up their performance and confidence in all classes, as well as outside the classroom. Through our sessions, I hope to instill the confidence and skills such that my students don't need me anymore!

Rebecca is a great teacher! She makes things easy to understand and is super patient if I don’t understand initially. She checks for understanding and can explain things in multiple ways.
