About Mateo
Hi! I’m Mateo. I'm 22, currently living in Woking, Surrey. I'm offering tuition in Politics, History and Biology from primary to A-level. My academic background consists of a 1st class in Politics and International Relations BSc. A-level in Biology (B grade). Now I am starting my master's in International Relations (International Intervention) I decided to start tutoring during my 2nd year at university. After my own classes, I would drive around the streets of South West London tutoring students from primary to degree level (at that time). It was a great way to meet people, improve their grades but also ensure that my fundamentals remained fresh! Over the last few years, online tutoring has become the main way I tutor. I've made this work just as well as face-to-face tutoring by using an iPad and online whiteboard (read more below). What improvement can you expect to see? On average, my students improve by about 2-3 grades from their predicted grade, depending on the length of time I have with them and several other factors. What can you expect from me? I value every single one of my students. I want them to succeed. So, tutoring requires more than just imparting knowledge, it's about making sure the surrounding factors are in order. The knowledge, mindset and organisation need to work together in harmony to achieve one's best result. So you can expect to see me go above and beyond to enable them to do their best. This can mean doing overtime, helping with quick impromptu questions over text or establishing productive study habits and time management techniques

** What can I expect in the first lesson? ** The first lesson is aimed at gauging the strengths and weaknesses of the student. I usually ask a few questions and set a small assessment covering multiple areas of the curriculum. I also ask students to send me any recent results/papers to help me speed this process up. ** What can I expect from a typical lesson? ** My lessons will typically commence with a starter activity which targets a random part of the curriculum. The activity helps me to continually update the student's tracking profile on what topics they are succeeding at and what they need more work on. After this, I usually focus on a specific topic which needs work. This will involve a period of teaching followed by a period of practice. If there is time, this process can be repeated for more topics. At the end of the lesson, we reflect on what we covered and set homework to solidify learning. ** How do I teach online? ** For my students to see my handwriting, I use an iPad with an Apple Pencil. I use an online whiteboard where I can write freely or import and annotate documents. Students can also write on here. For video calls and setting homework, I like to use Google Classroom. All of this means that online lessons are identical to face-to-face ones! ** How do I track progress? ** I make an individual file for each of my students to track the progress. This gives me the ability to plan exactly what to work on each week as well as provide parents and students real-time progress.

Mateo is phenomenal! He is a hidden gem. It is beyond belief my grades have improved from C’s to A’s at ALEVEL. Mateo has not only strengthened my skills but has guided me in the direction that best suits my attributes. I cannot thank him enough! His sheer dedication to his students is unmatched. Mateo goes beyond tutoring by providing me with advice such as time management for studies, revision strategies and more. I would definitely recommend Mateo if you’re looking to excel.
Mateo is my colleague at work. After taking up hours of his time asking technical questions, I can vouch for his patient and supportive temperament which makes him a great teacher. Together with his politics background which is more extensive than most, Mateo possesses a unique combination of skills, personality and experience which makes him an ideal tutor. I would highly recommend Mateo for any student, especially those curious to question their way to first principles.
