About Joy

I have a year experience in academic mentoring for AS and A level Chemistry and Biology in a scheme I implemented as Head Girl in my Sixth Form. I have led regular group revision study with other students when taking my GCSEs and have continued this in university.
I have 3 years’ experience in teaching and coaching karate at my local club. I gave private group and individual training to students training for their black belt exam, all of whom had passed and were awarded their black belts. Though I am a novice student tutor, I have developed excellent communication skills, organisation and leadership skills. To accompany my strong grasp of basic scientific knowledge I am reliable, disciplined and patient.

About the lesson

I am a Biomedical Science student at NTU. I am passionate about medical sciences and enjoy interacting and engaging with others. I offer tuition to range of students studying for SATS, GCSE’s or A Levels. I would like to appeal especially to students who prefer visual and interactive learning.
Tuition session duration : 1hr – 1hr 30min
The first session is introductory and offered free of charge. This is used to better understand the student’s academic strengths and weaknesses, introduce effective study and revision techniques.
Normal tuition sessions consist of short quizzes on previously taught topics, followed by teaching according to appropriate exam criteria, and closed with self- reflection and summary of topics.
Methods of tutoring will include flashcards, white board diagrams, drawn diagrams, case studies, written and spoken learning and exam practice. Other sessions will be more exam focused to develop good exam technique which covers, question dissection, approaching long answer questions and calculations. The last 10 minutes of every session will consist of setting homework question sheets, reflection time and introduction of a new topic or exam technique for the student to be intentional about throughout the week.

Online tutoring will consist of the same format, students will have access to a live webinar and video or audio chat. Diagrams, homework and worksheets will be emailed to students.
