About Brian

Most students do not struggle with mathematics because they are incapable.

They struggle because somewhere along the way, they developed gaps in their understanding, ineffective study habits, or lost confidence in their ability to improve.

My job is to identify exactly where the problem begins and help them rebuild from there.

Hi, I’m Brian, founder of Brian Lee Academy and a mathematics tutor with more than 10 years of teaching experience.

Over the past decade, I have worked with hundreds of students across different year levels, abilities and academic goals.

I have helped students improve from results such as 60% to 98% and 34% to 82%, and have supported students in moving from mid-range school rankings to 1st, 2nd and 3rd in their cohort.

Many of my senior students have also achieved Band 6 results in Mathematics Advanced and E4 results in Mathematics Extension 1.

However, I believe good tutoring is about more than improving marks.

Students should understand what they are learning, recognize why they make mistakes, develop better problem-solving habits and gradually become confident, independent learners.

My teaching approach focuses on:

• identifying gaps in knowledge
• explaining difficult concepts clearly
• breaking complex problems into manageable steps
• recognizing common mistakes and their underlying causes
• developing effective study habits
• practicing exam-style questions strategically
• building confidence and independence

After teaching such a wide range of students over many years, I have become very familiar with the patterns behind the mistakes students make.

Rather than simply working through a textbook from beginning to end, I tailor lessons around the individual student, their current understanding and the areas that will make the greatest difference to their progress.

I studied Construction Management and Property at UNSW, where I received the Dean’s Merit Award twice.

What began as a part-time tutoring job during university eventually became my passion and led me to establish Brian Lee Academy.

Today, Brian Lee Academy supports students in:

I am also developing original Brian Lee Academy workbooks and online courses designed to help students learn more effectively both inside and outside the classroom.

Small-group lessons:
• Y3-8: $40 per hour, or $80 per 2-hour lesson
• Y9-10: $50 per hour, or $100 per 2-hour lesson
• Y11-12: $60 per hour, or $120 per 2-hour lesson
• OC & Selective Prep: $40 per hour, or $120 per 3-hour lesson
• Private Lessons: $90 per hour, or $180 per 2-hour lesson, or $270 per 3-hour lesson

Trial lessons are paid and are not offered free of charge.

The lesson fee includes all learning materials, worksheets, topic tests and supplementary resources.

Students also receive:
• personalised learning plans and progress tracking
• regular progress reports
• prompt parent communication and feedback on request
• access to our 24/7 Discord Q&A community for additional academic support
• individual guidance within a small-group setting
