About Toren
I've always had a passion for mathematics. I love talking about it, teaching it, and using it in my everyday life. I have years of experience as a tutor, and there is nothing I love more than seeing the moment a concept clicks for a student. I truly believe that no one is "bad" at maths—it’s all about finding the right explanation that works for you. I am incredibly patient and take pride in breaking down complex ideas into simple, understandable steps, ensuring that my students build confidence as well as knowledge.
I received my degree in Mathematics from the University of Utah in 2017. I have since been employed at a financial technology company, where I am responsible for creating, validating, and supporting various calculations on complex financial portfolios. I have many answers for the question "when will I ever use this?"—from analyzing data to solving real-world problems, I’ve seen firsthand how mathematics is a powerful tool for understanding and navigating the world. My goal as a tutor is to help students not only succeed academically but also appreciate the beauty and utility of mathematics in their own lives.
Outside of maths, I enjoy staying active and pursuing a variety of interests. I play ice hockey, love skiing, and am also a musician who plays drums and guitar. I believe that balancing physical activity, creativity, and intellectual pursuits helps me stay energized and bring a fresh perspective to everything I do.

I offer lessons tailored to all levels of mathematics, from mastering the basics of arithmetic to exploring advanced topics like calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, and statistics. I also specialize in applying mathematics to physics and numerical methods, connecting abstract concepts to real-world applications. Whether you’re preparing for exams, tackling a challenging topic, or simply curious to dive deeper into something like linear algebra or numerical methods outside of a classroom, I’m here to help.
My lessons can be structured to fit your needs—whether that’s focused homework help, exam preparation, or a more open-ended lesson plan based on your interests and goals. I believe that with the right approach, maths can become not just manageable, but genuinely enjoyable. Sessions are available online or in person in Edinburgh, and I’ll work with you at your own pace to help you achieve your goals. Together, we can make maths click!
