About Fleur

Je m’appelle Fleur et je suis votre professeure de français. After finishing my last year at High School, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with my life, but I knew what made me happy: traveling and learning languages. For this reason, I decided to study something that let me travel and work in different countries: I've got a Master's Degree in French as a Foreign Language and recently, a Master's Degree in Language Sciences, Sociolinguistics, Languages and Discourse. I’ve studied to become a teacher but I’ve also learned languages through immersion, a practice that helped me to understand which is the way to learn a language and what students go through. This experience allowed me to discover a way to enjoy the learning process and boost my language skills, a method that today I transmit to my students. I’m passionate about languages, but above all, about what I do: teaching.

About the lesson

I really enjoy teaching and I can transmit the enthusiasm my students need to be confident and speak French. I think that learning a language is the result of a co-construction, which is why the student becomes the creator of his own learning under the teacher's supervision. Lessons become a space of sharing and support where the student acquires a language, but also develops a critical, curious and creative spirit. Your progress is my priority so my classes are designed to fully support your language skills development, following your needs and learning style. Then, you’ll understand the structure of this language and you’ll improve your confidence and fluency to use French in real life situations, enjoying the content and the course. Indeed, since the important thing is to communicate your message and to explain yourself, this course is focused on communication. During the lesson, you’ll work on different skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Probably, you’ll make mistakes when you’ll express yourself, but we need them: they will allow us to work on grammar rules and pronunciation and discover new words.

I have been taking online lessons with Fleur for approximately 4 months now. She is such a dynamic teacher, who has a structure for each lesson but will allow you to drift off at a tangent if relevant. She will always bring you back to the main focus of the lesson, which is the sign of a great teacher. I wish my school teachers could have been as good as her!
She has given me confidence to meet challenges head on. This is something I've shied away from for the past 20 years visiting France. I could survive with asking for things but really couldn't engage in conversations and would run away!
She has taught me the values of good structure, grammar and pronunciation and on a recent trip to Lille I managed to hold my own for a short period of time with hotel reception staff believing I was French! To me that was a major achievement, as historically people have sensed difficulty and switched into English! Whilst in Lille, I also engaged in conversation with a vendor over a broken coffee machine and a waiter about the quality of the food at a restaurant. These are meaningful real life situations for me and the feedback from others has given me inspiration to keep learning and developing.
Fleur has the patience of a saint, although I'm sure I will test this to the limit. Elle est la meilleure!
